The Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment or BEAD Program is a once in a lifetime opportunity to connect all Americans. But to do that, we have to get the requirements around the deployment right. At the recent Connect (X): Powered by WIA conference I spoke about why it’s so important that states' BEAD programs look to trusted and experienced providers like Verizon who have the skills and experienced workforce not just to build correctly, but to maintain and care for those networks and serve residents for years to come.  #broadbandforeveryone #BEAD

What a great Opportunity we all have in front of us! Rural America is going digital, fueled by $42 billion in federal broadband investment through the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. New article on Comcast Business's plans. Comcast reported its Q1 results today. As in previous quarters, the EBITDA margin for its business division is very high - 57%; much higher than the other operators we track. It is planning to trade some of this margin for growth, which makes sense. As I argue in this piece business revenue is on the low end compared to peers (when measured as a share of total revenue). https://lnkd.in/eUK8Pd8Q

It was an honor to speak with our industry’s leaders at this week's USTelecom | The Broadband Association Leadership Summit, where I laid out our views at AT&T on the critical policy issues facing our nation and our industry.   For decades, the U.S. has had a deliberate, investment-driven policy that has allowed this country to lead the world in telecommunications. Our nation’s leadership was built on allocating capital effectively to drive innovation in the private sector, and policies that support efficient government partnerships.   The future depends on a forward-looking agenda that follows the same approach to support the next generation of affordable, accessible, high-performance networks. Three areas are critical to get right:   1. Access: Sound implementation of the historic opportunity to expand broadband and close the digital divide. 2. Affordability: Re-architecting sustainable and streamlined subsidies for low-income households to insure universal access and affordability. 3. Airwaves: Establishing a pipeline of licensed mid-band spectrum to sustain US competitiveness. The bottom line: To truly connect all Americans – and to stay competitive globally – private investment must be married with good public policy. Of course FWA is future proof. FWA is the only edge technology that passes future homes and businesses before those structures are ever built, and without additional capital investment. 🙂 A wired last-mile, on the other hand, is never future-proof, regardless of the technology. Future homes and businesses located beyond the wired-edge are (sadly) the future unserved. 🙁 If the future belongs to the connected, as the FCC Chairwoman states, then we should be building more fixed wireless now to power the homes and businesses of tomorrow. 💡 #FWA #5G #WISP #broadband #internet #futureproof #digitaldivide #unserved #unconnected #digitalequity #digitalinclusion

Since 2000, the number of fixed telephone line subscriptions has declined by 50%. As telecom technology continues to move to wireless and internet-based services, many legacy systems are left behind during annual service upgrades. Although the industry is moving away from them, it’s not uncommon to find customers who are STILL PAYING for those systems after a migration to new tech. Upskilling and Reskilling: Staying Ahead of the Curve With the rapid evolution of technologies like GPON and 5G, it's crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest skills and knowledge. I've invested a lot of my time to enhance my expertise and demonstrate my commitment to the industry. I recommend exploring opportunities to upskill and reskill, ensuring you remain competitive in the job market. Customizing Applications: Standing Out from the Crowd When applying for jobs, I learned the importance of tailoring my resume and cover letter to each position. By highlighting relevant skills and experiences, I increased my chances of getting noticed by hiring managers. Remember to take the time to customize your applications, showcasing how you can contribute to the organization. Staying Positive and Persistent: A Mind-set Shift Job hunting can be a long and challenging process, but it's essential to maintain a positive attitude and persistence. I've faced setbacks and rejections, but instead of getting discouraged, I used them as opportunities to learn and grow. Remember, every "no" brings you closer to the right "yes."
