Be as transparent as possible in your marketing, especially on your website. In hyperlinks, the test should make it as clear as possible where it will take the reader. For example, if you're putting a link in the text that goes to a blog post about car insurance rates in Florida, the anchor text (words with the link) should be something like Florida car insurance. Hyperlinks should let Google and the reader know where they'll be taken very clearly. #seo

Looking at the list, it’s clear that I haven’t niched down into any specific industry, and this has given me an advantage when it comes to SEO. I can take strategies that work in other industries, and apply it to a new one where none of the competitors are doing that. I can analyse why one website did well or poorly over an algorithm update, and apply my discoveries to other websites in industries that weren’t affected as much, and give it a boost in a way that competitors aren’t even considering. I can enter an industry with an open and curious mind, conducting the full research from scratch, and creating strategies that I wouldn't have thought of had I come in with preconceived notions about how it was going to work. If you're gonna do your own cold outreach, here are some things to consider: - It's going to be a lot of work. - You're going to have to get good at working with lists. Not just building them (even the smart tools and subscriptions are often unwieldy), but pruning them, tidying up the info (even the smart tools and subscriptions are bad at giving you fields you can immediately use), segmenting them (the very definition of STP (Segmentation, Targeting, Positioning means that an outsourced list isn't going to arrive ready to use) and maintaining them. - You're going to have to think about things like SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. Having a healthy email address (or several, if you're going for volume) is crucial for deliverability. - Speaking of deliverability, have a look at the various lists of words that can trigger spam filters (there are 188 listed at https://lnkd.in/eyWWW9GY but there are more out there...!). - You'll need to build a version of your value proposition that is compelling to a cold prospect. These are not the same as warm prospects at all. They won't respond to the same things. - You're used to converting referrals. Referrals convert at 80% from solid meeting to win. Cold outreach converts at the inverse proportion, divided by the number of potential suppliers other than the referral (and there's a referral in the mix whether you know it or not). Not understanding this means you'll ditch your activity when it might be doing just fine. - Speed wins. Someone replies? Reply immediately if at all possible. Seeming like you're "on the case" means being on the case. Duh. - You'll get ghosted by people who replied. Get used to it. Be direct and you can reawaken ghost-leads. - Get used to the fact that people won't remember you. They get a LOT of emails and LinkedIn DMs just like yours. Get over it. - Mentioning your previous email to someone who ignored it isn't a great look. Think of something better. - When running cold outreach, shorter emails are almost always better than longer ones. The email isn't there to win the business, it's there to make the next conversation happen. You're going to have to leave out a LOT in each email. - Some people will send snotty replies. Meh. - It will VERY often feel like it's not working. It's always working better than not doing it.

This week I am sharing a TRUE technical tip with you. It relates to posting status updates on LinkedIn. If you've ever done this and realized the preview image was wrong, your next step was to have your team update that picture on your website. And then you go to LinkedIn again to try and redo your status update with a link back to that page or post. The problem is that LinkedIn now has a cached version of your URL and still shows the old content! Printing and Distributing Flyers vs Instagram Ad I've seen it everywhere, from the bus stop, train station, malls, my mailbox and my door: flyers advertising someone's business. Do you think it's cost effective to print and distribute flyers? I've just run an Instagram ad recently. It costs me S$10.88 for 1194 users (some users view it several times, so its impression is 1480 times). The cost per each impression is S$0.0074. Let's compare it with a flyer: S$880 for 10000 flyers. Assuming that each flyer will be viewed by 1 person, that's 10000 impressions at S$880, or S$0.088 per each impression.
