What common mistakes do you need to avoid when telling a story through video?
Lighting is critical. If you're on a small budget, use sunlight to your advantage. But even if you use high-quality lighting, you shouldn't have harsh shadows. It can take time to adjust the lights, talent, and background so that it looks good on camera. But it will be worth it as it makes your videos look professional.

What common mistakes do you need to avoid when telling a story through video?
While video quality is important, the audio quality can make or break a video. Make you you use the right type of microphone for the video you're creating. While there is some impressive audio editing software available, don't rely on "fixing it in post". Get it done right while filming and you don't have to worry about heavy audio editing.

What common mistakes do you need to avoid when telling a story through video?
Knowing the purpose of your video is critical. Are you telling a story, marketing a product or service or selling something? You should also know exactly who your ideal customer/client is and how to create content that will speak to their needs, problems, and the solutions that will best help them. The more clear and specific you are, the more you will find success.

Although their clients own or manage residential, commercial and institutional properties, they seek to serve the “design” market – clients who want unique solutions. Their staff includes a licensed landscape…
The Site Group is a landscape design company that wanted a new promo video to showcase their services through customer testimonies. They are located outside of New Carlisle, Ohio. Their service area includes Clark, Miami and Montgomery counties and nearby sites in the adjacent counties. Although their clients own or manage residential, commercial and institutional properties, they seek to serve the “design” market – clients who want unique solutions. Their staff includes a licensed landscape architect, graduate of a landscape contracting program, and a licensed electrician. The Site Group looks forward to challenging projects and have experience outside of the company in excavation, construction, cabinet work, electrical work, masonry, and, of course, landscaping.

3rd Place Prize at Startup Weekend Columbus
Startup Weekend
I took place in a weekend competition where contestants build a business in a weekend. Startup Weekend is an international organization and helps create startups. There were 120 in attendance at the event. My team had 5 members and we created a startup that seeks to help video companies back up their files online. Our startup won 3rd place and was awarded a consulting meeting with NCT Ventures in Columbus, Ohio.
