Automation, digital transformation and culture change go hand-in-hand in today’s economy. Like most innovations, the true transformation is in the people who make #automation and #digitalization a reality. I am heading to Chicago for the 2024 Automate Show at McCormick Place. Looking forward to seeing what new solutions innovators like FATA Automation Inc and Vention’s Etienne Lacroix and his team have come up with since last year’s Automate show at Huntington Place in Detroit. Lots of conversation at last year’s event and in the media about how leaders such as NVIDIA Robotics, ABB Robotics and PAL Robotics are adapting automation solutions to small-scale manufacturing operations. Siemens’s Brad Rosenhamer and I had a great discussion about this following the Manufacturing in America show last year in Detroit. And it all came down to culture. How do you fit the solution to the customer’s needs in a way that they embrace it? It’s about more than finding the right technology, installation, implementation, and training people to use new automation solutions. It’s about adapting those solutions to the client’s #companyculture. It’s about understanding #manufacturingculture and how to support people to transition away from legacy systems and processes. I just finished this truly excellent book. I strongly recommend it to any investors who like the look of our industry and want to invest. Reading it will save you a lot of time and reduce your investment risk as the authors describe not just the important building blocks of automation but also where the think the industry is going.
