Having strong ideals can be powerful, but also dangerous. People with outspoken beliefs often act vigorously, backed by the conviction they are right and virtuous. The more firm their ideals, the more staunch they will be in pursuing them. But this easily tips over into being inflexibly certain about their own worldview. They know the truth and therefore are justified to impose their ideals on everyone around them. They become ideological, rigid and pushy...if not outright dictatorial. I love being Faculty at the Coactive Training Institute where we train people in world leading coaching skills with a rigorous, 100+ hours program, followed by 6 months certification, leading to ICF accreditation. Over the past few years, especially post pandemic, I believe we have witnessed a steep decline in the number of strong leaders we have at organizations around the world. Or perhaps a better way to phrase it is that the collective strength of leaders has declined.
