What is the best way to describe your SQL experience?
Assessing your SQL baseline is incredibly subjective. I have a DBA certification, and theoretically, I can qualify as someone who is 'advanced' on paper, but in reality, I don't use it day-to-day and forget a lot of it. The best measure of proficiency, I believe, is how effectively you can use SQL to solve real-world problems and scenarios. Participating in online forums, contributing to open-source projects, or taking on small freelance tasks can provide opportunities to apply your skills in diverse situations, thereby giving a more accurate measure of your proficiency.

How can a System Development professional stay current with industry trends?
Embracing a 'learn-it-all' mentality in rapidly growing fields like tech is not just beneficial; it's essential. Regardless of your years of experience, don’t ever fall in the trap of thinking you know it all and there is nothing new to learn. While no education can replace real-world experience, combining what you learn on the job with ongoing learning is the only way to stay relevant. I personally like challenging myself with certifications because they act as a forcing function for ongoing learning while creating a healthy pressure to follow through (because you need to pass). It’s human nature to procrastinate in a lax environment, that’s why I highly recommend setting exam deadlines and personal milestones in your learning journey.
