🤝 White House and SANS Institute | GIAC Chart a Path to Close the Cybersecurity Skills Gap The Office of the National Cyber Director, The White House, in partnership with SANS Institute, GIAC Certifications, and myriad private and public sector organizations, has launched an initiative to modernize the U.S. cybersecurity workforce in key sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications, retail, and clean energy, under the Biden-Harris Administration's agenda. This initiative was announced on April 29, 2024, at the White House Cyber Workforce Convening in Washington, DC. It was an honor for SANS and GIAC leadership to attend this event and we thank ONCD for organizing it, as U.S. Government and private sector leaders were able to have productive conversations around public-private partnerships and how to best expand and strengthen the U.S. cyber workforce. During the event, SANS GIAC leadership released the 2024 SANS | GIAC Cyber Workforce Research Report, outlining the best practice of emphasizing skills and technical certifications over traditional four-year degrees in cybersecurity hiring. We applaud the Administration for leading by example and announcing the removal of the requirement for four-year degrees to work in cybersecurity jobs within Government. The Administration's shift to skills-based hiring is welcomed, and speaks to findings in the report regarding the need employers across sectors face to ensure new hires have the core technical skills to effectively perform their jobs on Day 1. It also removes a major barrier to entry for those without degrees seeking to enter the cyber workforce. Another speaker at this event included Christine Morency, a Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) #SANSAlumni and now a cloud security professional at Merck, who serves as a prime example of this new direction in cyber workforce development and the findings from the report. Her transition from a non-technical background in physical therapy to a specialized role in cybersecurity illustrates the powerful impact of reskilling, supported by diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, in developing both entry-level and upskilling entry-level professionals to advanced, specialized cyber roles. 📩 Download the 2024 SANS | GIAC Cyber Workforce Research Report to learn about the importance of skilled training in addressing current cybersecurity challenges → https://lnkd.in/eyenTQkg 🔗 Read more here → https://lnkd.in/g4nFXyki SANS Cyber Academy | #SANSTraining #Cybersecurity #CareersInCyber #WorkforceDevelopment
