As a Product Designer, this would be my job hunting tech stack in 2024: - Webflow or Framer for portfolio - Teal for (tailored) resumes - Open Doors for junior jobs / Otta.com for mid level jobs and beyond - Notion for note-taking and staying organized - ChatGPT for interview prep (use the voice feature!) - Figma / FigJam for everything visual - Pitch for presentations - adplist.org for learning more about people who work in companies I apply to This allows you to move with a swift and tailored approach. Figma’s database stack has grown almost 100x since 2020. This is a good problem to have because it means the business is expanding, but it also poses some tricky technical challenges. Over the past four years, the folks at Figma Dev made a significant effort to stay ahead of the curve and avoid potential growing pains. Here's the story of how Figma horizontally shared its Postgres stack and the key to unlocking (nearly) infinite scalability 👇

Just a few quick observation/advice for UX designers seeking job opportunities: - Make sure to create your own custom portfolio site. You’d think every designer has a portfolio site, but some designers seem to think their resume or LinkedIn speaks the whole story and simply skip on the website. When you’re the only candidate in the pack that doesn’t bring a portfolio site, you kind of stand out (in a negative way). A custom site with a custom URL works better than something like Dribbble IMO. And your website is the first place where potential recruiters are judging your design skills - a bit unfair, but it’s a natural human instinct - Don’t be shy about the fact that you’re a junior UX designer. Trying to make your Google UX Design Certificate project look like an important client work can backfire, namely can make you less trustworthy. Instead, show your eagerness to learn and demonstrate how you used the past projects to grow in a tangible way - Don’t put your hourly rates on the website. I know that might be the first question everyone is asking, but you’re not a product, and you might run the risk of underselling yourself

Design startup Figma is pursuing a secondary share sale at a $12.5bn valuation after its proposed acquisition by Adobe fell apart in December. The sale is expected to be as much as $900m and will be available to current and former employees or other holders of Figma equity. New investors including Fidelity Investments, Franklin Venture Partners and existing ones such as Sequoia and Andreessen Horowitz are expected to acquire stakes totaling about $600m to $900m in the secondary sale. Figma was last valued at $10bn in a private funding round in 2021. #MergersAcquisitionsDivestitures #PrivateEquity #Technology

As a product designer, I've found that part of the job (aside from moving pixels) is managing the communication of design feedback in Slack. While there is a commenting feature in Figma, more often than not Slack is where the deep discussions happen. I've found the 4 R's of communicating designs in Slack to be helpful. Right place: Should this actually take place in Slack? Is it more productive to have this conversation in a live meeting? Right time: Is it the right time to collect feedback? Do you need more information first? Else the conversation gets extremely fragmented and counter-productive. Right context: Do the folks in the conversation have the right context? Do you need to attach a brief? An image? Or include a link to another conversation that will give the backstory? Right people: Is this the right group of people to bring into the conversation? Design is more than just Figma. It's also about effectively collaborating and communicating your designs with the people around you. I'd love to know how others collaborate effectively in Slack.
