💲California’s subsidy system is a source of income for #childcare providers, including eligible Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) caregivers. The IDAHO HEALTH CARE ASSOCIATION wanted to remind you that Idaho’s primary election day is being held on Tuesday, May 21st. We highly encourage you to get out and vote. Research and get to know who is running in your legislative district. Reach out to the IHCA office and we can explain how to find what district you are in. If you don’t vote and you complain about what the legislature does, we don’t know what to tell you. You have to get involved. We care about legislators. We ask them to help us to pay for Medicaid that reimburses facilities and home care agencies. Without that we are stuck for two more years. There is an election every two years for every legislator. There are some really great legislators running for re-election that we want back. I’ve got a list of legislators that our association has supported, and we will give a shout out for those candidates. Most importantly, get involved. Find out who is running in your area. Give a check to those who you support. Have them come to visit your place of work. They want to meet voters. If they can come to your facility and meet many people at once, they would love that. Your residents and staff would love to meet the candidates. Even if you’re not endorsing a candidate as an employer, at least have your team and residents get to know them. To help your residents vote, you’ll need to start doing absentee ballots now or be willing to help them get to the place where they can vote. We need to be involved because if you are not, then you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit. Thank you everyone. We at the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management are activating our emergency operation center and even declaring disasters for extreme weather conditions increasingly every year. Today, Mee Memorial Healthcare System stands with the rural communities of Monterey County in strong support of Senate Bill 1423. This crucial bill proposes vital changes to the Medi-Cal program that will significantly impact critical access hospitals (CAHs) and their ability to serve rural Californians effectively. Across California, 37 CAHs tirelessly provide essential medical services to rural communities. Despite their pivotal role, these hospitals face financial challenges due to inadequate reimbursement rates for inpatient and outpatient services under the current Medi-Cal structure, which fails to cover the actual costs of care. SB 1423 aims to rectify this imbalance, ensuring these hospitals can maintain necessary healthcare services and accessibility. “SB 1423 is not just legislation; it's a lifeline for rural healthcare providers and their patients,” said Rena Salamacha, CEO of Mee Memorial. “It ensures we can continue delivering high-quality care right where it's needed, preventing our residents from having to travel extensive distances for essential services.” The bill, which enjoys bipartisan support, has successfully passed the Senate Health Committee and now progresses to the Appropriations Committee. It seeks to revise the funding model to ensure that rural hospitals like Mee Memorial can sustain operations and continue to provide comprehensive healthcare services—from emergency and acute care to rehabilitative and diagnostic services. Social factors play a major role in our health, so I’m encouraged to see states using Medicaid to not only improve healthcare access, but address related issues that impact health like safe housing and extreme weather. Oregon is running a first-in-the-nation experiment to counteract the health impacts of climate change in the region. The state is sending air conditioners, air purifiers and power banks to vulnerable residents using Medicaid funding. Extreme heat and wildfire smoke can be a serious threat to everyone’s health, especially those who are making choices between groceries, medications, and turning on the AC. In 2021, California committed to expanding universal PreK to all 4-year-olds and income-eligible 3-year-olds by 2025–26. This new report uses an analysis of local education agencies’ survey responses to provide an update on universal PreK implementation across the state, finding that agencies are making promising progress toward expansion but still face challenges related to facilities, staffing, and sustainable funding. https://lnkd.in/gnyvkHsT
