For self-published authors, getting into bookstores can be an uphill battle, so when you actually do accomplish the feat, make sure to send prospective buyers to bookstores—not to Amazon. Be sure to explain to your prospective buyers the value (to you) of their going to their local bookstore and asking for your book.

Even accomplished writers often get this one wrong. Words that end in -ly are adverbs; they don't need to be hyphenated (only compound adjectives do). This might be a minor mistake (it is), but these types of mistakes can add up. Too many and your content will suffer.
