Yes, we know TikTok is a disruptor, but just how much? This should get every brand to think about how they're talking to Gen Z: "TikTok has rewritten the narrative of what we collectively accept as normal. Consumption has always been the handmaiden of internet culture and unsurprisingly, while we take in hundreds of strangers’ lives daily, the needle is being pushed as to what’s a necessity and what’s a luxury." This certainly impacts the travel industry just as much as any other category. What resonates with Gen Z when it comes to where they decide to go? Where to stay? Where to eat? Who to fly? In a world of Targets, be like Walmart, LGBT+ people and their allies are likely saying this #PrideMonth. That's because unlike Target and other retailers that, seemingly owing to enormous political and social pressure, have retreated from their previous support of Pride Month, Walmart has forged ahead with plans to sell Pride-related merch, much of it produced by LGBT+ businesses, artists and designers, as KTLA reports. The massive anti-Pride backlash last year that snagged up brands like Target and Bud Light has likewise not tempered the enthusiasm of retailers like AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS INC., Converse and Levi Strauss & Co., all of which said they'll move forward with selling Pride-related goods this year, according to Ad Age. Brands that pull back on their support of causes may do so at their peril. Surveys have shown that consumers like doing business with companies that take a stand, and not just when it makes for good PR. I used to think that doctors including those with a Ph.D. have reached the epitome of what anyone could ever earn for an income in our society. While I deeply admire those with that skillset, I discovered that all "workers," even professional athletes for example, have a limited income potential and the only way to have an unlimited income potential is by investing or becoming an entrepreneur/business owner. This is what people do to become wealthy. As a freelancer, professional development needs to be intentional and scheduled - which sadly means it can often fall by the wayside. This week, I was so excited to join Abbi Perets for her Business Email Masterclass workshop, to brush up on some critical skills for supporting clients with their email sequences. It was a much needed reminder that email shouldn't be underestimated! it gives you a lot more control over your brand and messaging compared with website content (where you're relying on visitors actively looking for you) or social media (where your views are subject to the whims of an algorithm). While I'm feeling excited about email, speak to me about: - Welcome and onboarding sequences for those critical first 90 days, including customer education. - Weekly emails that are hyper-personalized to specific audiences. - Re-engagement sequences to energize old audiences or narrow down your segments. And tell me, how is your business using email to engage and convert?

A great test to see if your copy is too formal is the "comma Mary” test. The test comes from Bruce DeSilva, a thriller author and former journalist. The test: put ", Mary" at the end of a statement. Then read it aloud. If it doesn't sound right—namely, too formal—turn the word-choice dial toward less specialized, more conversational until it feels right. Example: “Undergoing regular cancer screenings is the expert-recommended approach to discovering cancer early enough to optimize treatment options and improve health outcomes, Mary." or "Regular cancer screenings help find cancer early, which is why experts recommend them. Treatment works best then and can help patients live longer, Mary." Which one are you most likely to say to a person? Now, it's no silver bullet; you'll want to go deeper and look at your writing decisions—sentence length along with word choice and order. But the "comma Mary" test is a great tool to judge your copy's readability. And to make changes toward making it more human—if that's what it needs, Mary.
