It's been almost 20 years since we introduced this crazy idea that didn't just elevate the business, but truly became part of the cultural lexicon. The team at FCB Irvine and Taco Bell realized that 'spice up the night' had done great things for the business, but wanted to provoke the fast food industry as only TB could. Strategically, we leaned into the fact that the food did more than just fill you up, but late at night it was more about 'feeding your carnivorous side' (aka the main idea from the brief). Since then, seeing how the business has continued to evolve, creative that pushed deeper into the role Fourthmeal can play in people's nights, and as the CBO said at the time... "TB is really just late night food we eat during the day". Remembering our crew that created this iconic idea... When is the last time you bought a physical magazine? Mine was a Paper Magazine last year but I might be an outlier as I like to think I am collecting certain artifacts for a hypothetical pop culture museum one day. But in January of this year, the parent company of "Sports Illustrated" laid off almost all of its staff (the story was first reported by Front Office Sports). It may be no coincidence that S.I. published their first-ever "digital cover" featuring TikToker Alix Earle and other top creators the same year. Is the digital cover of S.I. a foreshadow of print media going completely digital in the next 10 years? Is there a world where we tell our grandkids one day that we used to buy physical magazines that you could sift through and it wasn't just viral pictures online? #GenerativeAI really is here to make humans' lives easier. Turns out it doesn't only take over tasks we don't want to deal with. It solves the age-old Designer's Dilemma, "Good, cheap, fast...pick two." The rubric states (cynically) that, when working on a project, the outcome can be good and fast, but at a price. Or good and cheap, but on the proverbial back-burner. Or cheap and fast, but good? Not so much. That's where AI shines. Cheap and fast. Especially since most clients insist on paying hourly (which wrongfully incentivizes both parties). There is and will be good use cases for GenAI, but it will not produce anything better than good-enough on its lowest-common-denominator own. We have the opportunity to actually blow up the good-cheap-fast limitation by staying engaged and using our human rule-breaking intuition to achieve all three.

Anything we appreciate enough to talk about, analyze, even obsess over, because it just hits. Getting in-tune with what should matter is a skill unto itself. But then taking that next step of what doesn't; what needs to find its way out of the matter at hand, because it's not only inessential, it's actually taking away from the things that do matter. I find this analysis fascinating as it speaks to our constant "evolution" of our basic needs. Thanks GroupM for providing some thought provoking ideas. "It found the Gen Z generation is driven much more than the classic food, clothing and shelter mindset of older populations, including the following shifts: From Physiological to Accuracy: Gen Zers are passionate and want to support companies that align with their values and provide them accurate, trusted services and information. This is the new, most basic need. From Safety to Safe Spaces: Gen Z will prioritize digital spaces that promote user safety. They view the internet as a harsh place. 64% do not trust everything they see online. So they gravitate to online safe spaces, particularly for marginalized groups. From Love to Fandom: A single person can be a part of an endless number of communities that impact their identities, influencing their purchase intent. In fact, Gen Z is 38x more likely to purchase products that borrow outside IP and 80% have made purchases via creator-led livestreams. Brands need to work with creators to co-build online communities and connect directly with consumers. Building Self-esteem Through Forums: Gen Z’s sense of self is a blend between online and offline identities. In commerce, brands can meet this need by providing products and experiences that enhance a consumers’ confidence within a certain group, even if it isn’t hyper-specific to them individually. From Self Actualization to Hybrid Advocacy: Think of “actualized” consumers as brand ambassadors. Gen Z’ers are not only advocates among friends and family, but they can be the same for brands, embedding it or its product into their identity, and even using it as a springboard for creation." Be the first in your neighborhood to create AI images on GettyImages! Getty has always touted high-quality stock images. When Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion first came out, Getty was the loudest voice against the source images that were used to train those programs. Getty pointed out that many of their stock images (usually with watermarks on them) were used without their permission. If you’re an early user of Midjourney, like I am, you’ll recall watermarks showing up in rendered images frequently. This happens when people post watermarked images from Getty on Pinterest, Twitter, and other social media sites. Getty continued to be outspoken about the illegal nature of AI output and the possibility of being sued if you used them and refused to sell any AI images for stock. Then Shutterstock started selling AI images and Adobe Firefly started creating AI images, by using Adobe Stock for training their program. Getty realized that if you can’t beat them, join them! This week I spoke to two Getty reps about their AI imaging. They touted the safety of their generated images and that they would provide licenses for your generated images because they only used their vast library of stock images to train their program. Their program is powered by NVIDIA. Below are two links to all the information about their AI program. But here’s what I found out: 1. You must first have a demo with one of their reps. 2. They are selling their program by the prompt. Each prompt costs $2.00. If you rerun your prompt or modify it and run it again that’s another prompt. 3. The only thing is the minimum purchase is 12,000 prompts. So to start using their AI program you have to hand over $24,000.00! Yes, this is the minimum purchase. 4. For that outlay, they will store all your images on their site for 6 months and any image you choose to use commercially will have a usage license. 5. There is a lower-priced package. For just $2,400.00 you can still have 12,000 prompts, but they don’t store them nor can you have a license to use your images. So for $2,400 you can explore and have fun with it! I provided one of their reps with a couple of my prompts to run to see the results. The first one called for a stock image of a girl on a bike. It produced an accurate image of a girl on a bike, but a head and shoulders shot with not much bike showing. It is possible to extend an image by extending the crops and prompting what you want in the extended area. The second prompt was for a Sci-Fi image of a huge spacecraft. The results, compared to MJ results, were unsatisfactory, simplified, toy-like spaceships. If what you are looking to generate looks like a stock image, you can get that with either program.
