Intensive Trauma-Focused Therapy Training Starts September 9 This workshop will outline the potential benefits and pitfalls of intensive trauma-focused therapy, review the research, and teach, in detail, how to do it. Participants must already be trained in EMDR or PC. The focus is on how to sequence the various types of interventions that are normally done over the course of trauma-informed treatment, how to manage certain types of clinical issues, and how to manage the business aspect. Participants will learn the step-by-step system for implementing intensive trauma-focused therapy and will conduct guided/supervised intensive trauma-focused therapy with one another. This is an experiential training. Participants will be able to: ✅ Develop and implement a comprehensive trauma-informed treatment plan. ✅ Problem-solve a challenging case using the trauma treatment framework. ✅ Implement the set of procedures required to provide intensive trauma-focused therapy to clients. Trauma Aware vs Trauma Informed. Being trauma informed and trauma aware are concepts within the broader field of understanding how trauma affects individuals and systems, but they imply different levels of depth and application regarding this understanding. 1. **Trauma Aware**: This is generally considered the more basic level of understanding. Being trauma aware means recognizing that trauma exists and understanding its potential impacts on individuals and their behavior. It involves an awareness that traumatic experiences can influence a person’s mental health, physical health, and overall well-being. People and organizations at this level are cognizant of the signs of trauma but may not have integrated this knowledge deeply into their practices or policies. 2. **Trauma Informed**: This is a more advanced and actionable level of engagement with the concept of trauma. Being trauma informed means that an individual or organization not only recognizes the prevalence and impact of trauma but also actively incorporates this understanding into their practices, policies, and approaches to support individuals affected by trauma. It involves a systematic focus on the ways in which organizations operate and interact with those they serve, ensuring that environments and practices are conducive to healing and do not inadvertently re-traumatize individuals. This approach includes training staff in trauma-specific skills, designing safe spaces for trauma survivors, and consistently applying principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. In essence, while being trauma aware is about knowledge, being trauma informed extends that knowledge into practical application, shaping how services are delivered and how organizations function with an ongoing commitment to understanding and addressing trauma in all its forms.
