“"I supervised Matt Brown when I was Provost and then President of Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2009-2013, at times directly and at other times with one manager between us. As Pacifica is a relatively small organization, he always had direct access to me and I had the ability to be aware of his activities. At first his job was the Director of IT. The staff was small and the challenges great as there was much to do that required knowledge of many divergent aspects of IT. He demonstrated expertise in systems implementation, implementing and maintaining Tk20, a program we needed for accreditation assessment research, but which had numerous bugs, requiring patience and diplomacy to solve. He also upgraded our server environment to the latest versions of Windows server software and VMWare virtualizing environments. Having earned an MBA, Matt had developed leadership and managerial abilities beyond his initial position at Pacifica. When our COO resigned, Matt took immediate leadership to supervise the work in the Operations and Facilities/Maintenance, in addition to running IT. The quality of his leadership and his ability to work as hard as needed to do two jobs was recognized when he was named the COO. In this position he implemented and managed a consolidation of catering services on both campuses to one caterer to control costs (approximately $150,000/year), increased food production efficiencies (standards, quality, preparation, menus), upgraded the computing environment to the latest version of Microsoft Windows and Office productivity software, and Dell/Mac hardware. He also excelled at supervision and budgeting. He created a 6 year Capital Spending/Operating Improvement Plan, and found $500,000/year (10%) in operating budget savings and created a strong working team across divisions."”
