A National Center for Education Statistics study found that one in five children in the US (15.3 million) did not have access to basic school supplies. Anyone who joins our Y in July and contributes school supplies will not pay the joiner fee, a savings of up to $100. Members and the public are also welcome to drop off school supplies at any of our branches, and we’ll get them to kids in need. More boys participate in sports than girls, studies show. The YMCA of Greater Cleveland is encouraging girls to consider participating in sports, as doing so builds leadership and teamwork skills. 🌟🏅 We are proud to announce that our very own lifeguard Abby Williams and Aquatics Director Jim Mannion have been awarded the Citizen Award by Cleveland Emergency Medical Services! During the start of EMS week at City Hall, Mayor Justin Bibb and Councilman Charlie Slife presented this honor in the city council chambers. Abby and Jim's courageous actions saved the life of Charles Conrad, who stood proudly beside them during the ceremony. Please join us in celebrating Abby and Jim's remarkable achievement and their unwavering commitment to safety at West Park! 💖🏊♂️

Congratulations to the 100 kids who participated in the Greater Cleveland YMCA's We Run This City program at the Cleveland Marathon! The program teaches young people to set and achieve goals. Leaders from the YMCA of Greater Cleveland, along with the CEO and several other staff members from the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, participated this week in Y-USA’s Undoing Racism workshop. The workshop provides a humanistic process for laying a foundation to explore how we have been racialized, socialized and conditioned to think about race and racism.
