We are delighted to share that WID's inaugural cohort of three Global Heumann Fellows started on July 1st. Please join us in welcoming: Kasim Sajjabi, Uganda; Munir Sewani, PhD Pakistan; and Robbie Francis Watene, PhD New Zealand More information about our first cohort of the Global Heumann Fellowship will be coming later this month. We cannot wait to share more about these three disability rights leaders and the research projects that they will be working on for the next year. Thank you, once again, to all of our applicants. We were thrilled by the exceptional caliber of applications we received from over 70 countries, making the selection process incredibly challenging. We have already launched a WhatsApp group for all of our applicants, and the discussions among them are thought-provoking and mutually supportive. We will seek opportunities to engage with all applicants as we look to expand the Global Heumann Fellowship. We are excited to partner with the Disability Justice Project to provide guidance to the cohort on documentary-style storytelling. We especially want to thank Wells Fargo and the Ford Foundation, for funding the first inaugural cohort of three fellows, as well as Wells Fargo, Microsoft and MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AMERICA FOUNDATION for funding the startup of this initiative in 2023. #GHF #GlobalHeumannFellowship #disabilityrights #disabilityjustice

Celebrating 4 years of responding in support of disability-led organizations in disasters. #GADRA

I am excited to share my appointment to United Nations Secretary General António Guterres's Early Warnings for All Initiative Advisory Panel as the Civil Society representative. #EW4ALL is a groundbreaking initiative, launched by Secretary-General Guterres in 2022 to ensure that every person on earth is protected from hazardous weather, water, or climate events through life-saving #EarlyWarningSystems by the end of 2027. I am encouraged that the global leaders working together to achieve this key mission chose to include a representative from the global #DisabilityRights community as the civil society representative, and reiterated in my invitation they are seeking guidance in further aligning their efforts with international climate goals to achieve "not Early Warnings for Some, but Early Warnings for All". The Advisory Panel is co-chaired by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) & the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The panel comprises representatives from both public & private sectors, civil society, & youth to drive forward the implementation of the initiative.   The Panel monitors & reports on progress against the achievement of the goal to the UN Secretary-General, & has the following objectives: (1) Assess progress of the EW4All initiative against its goals and targets; (2) Build political and overall momentum & support for the EW4All initiative; (3) Provide overall recommendations for the mobilization of resources; & (4) Monitor scientific and technical development related to Early Warning Systems. One of my important advisory roles is to represent the UNDRR #SendaiFramework Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism & our key global, regional & national policy priorities: -Invest in advanced monitoring & early warning systems, not an afterthought. -Stakeholders most affected are included in every step of the EW4All Initiative, -Communications must reach everyone, be clear, usable, & always in accessible & redundant formats. -Early warnings are connected with proactive measures aimed at safeguarding communities before a hazard occurs.
