Our Women’s Philanthropy Institute research shows that less than 2% of total philanthropic dollars in the US goes to women’s and girls’ organizations. I’m grateful that this dismal statistic is motivating donors like Melinda French Gates and many others to move money for gender equity and women’s rights. Love the callout of our statistic in this video! #WomensPhilanthropy #GiveToWomenAndGirls
The rollback of women’s rights in the U.S. and around the world has been swift and merciless. It’s been shocking to contemplate that my 1-year-old granddaughter could grow up with fewer rights than I had. But what gives me hope are all the people and organizations working tirelessly to protect the rights of women and girls everywhere. That’s why, in May, I announced a new $1 billion commitment designed specifically to support their work and advance women’s power and influence globally. Here’s where some of those resources will go, to start.

WPI's Women & Girls Index shows that in 2020, the $9 billion in support of girls and women’s causes accounted for less than 2 percent of all philanthropic funding. This Chronicle of Philanthropy article features our own Jacqueline Ackerman discussing how Melinda French Gates' $12.5 billion might be used to benefit women and girls in the U.S. and around the world: “Her influence is more than just financial, and that will continue to grow as she strikes out on her own... It can be a game changer, but really only if it’s used to spur more giving.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eBkSEJfp #GiveToWomenAndGirls #womensphilanthropy
