As the 2023-24 LCATS Cohort ends their Year-1 Experience, we reflect on what our NASA Junior Consultants have accomplished this year. From studying lunar regolith and lava tubes, to building and deploying LiDAR kits in Caves, to writing Proposals, to launching 2 High-Altitude Balloons into the stratosphere, these young scientists have studied new technologies, trained in 3D Visualization, mastered the Engineering Design Process, and worked to implement solutions on real-world space exploration challenges. Their hands-on experience is paving the way for innovative space exploration and preparing them to tackle the challenges of extraterrestrial terrains. Now, they can begin preparing for Year 2 - which includes discussions on Lunar Robotics and Construction/Excavation methods. All of this is in thanks to the generous sponsorship and partnerships of the Kelly Heritage Foundation and Port San Antonio. Thank you to our wonderful partners St. Mary's University's School of Science, Engineering and Technology, the primary location and large sponsor of the LCATS Classroom Sessions, and the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology. The college campus experience and Museum atmosphere given to the students was unforgettable. Here's to the next generation of space explorers. #LCATS #NASAProgram #NASA #SpaceSTEM #SpaceExploration #LunarExploration #PlanetaryExploration #SSTEM #Space #SanAntonio #SpaceScience Kathryn Bolish
