We are so jazzed about the upcoming #2024 San Antonio Aviation and Aerospace Hall of Fame Luncheon on Friday, May 3rd at the Boeing Center at Tech Port! Today we started working on the inductee videos and met Dr. Anna Catherine Armstrong, the niece of #TexHill. She laughed sharing some of her larger-than-life memories. We also met Fernando Cortez who got to meet #TexHill as a high school student fascinated by WWII, who loved art, and wanted to go into aviation. He shared proudly about the #30year mentoring 👏 relationship that developed and his career as an aviation museum expert! We can't wait for you to see the full video! 📽 Special thanks to our friends at Port San Antonio for underwriting the costs of these videos. 💥 Get your tickets or consider sponsoring a table! 💥 www.deehoward.org The proceeds from this event will support the innovation and sustainability of the work of the Dee Howard Foundation. Over 100 high school students are working to take and pass the Federal Aviation Administration Part 107. Also on May 3rd is the first of its kind in San Antonio, a Regional Drone Competition with over 400 students learning to fly drones to support water ecology and water sustainability.

About us
The Dee Howard Foundation was founded in memory of San Antonio Aviation Pioneer, Dee Howard. In 2013 friend and former Senior Vice President Wayne Fagan and Dee's Family made a commitment to honor Dee's legacy. A fund was created with The San Antonio Area Foundation. A nonprofit and 501c3 was created in 2016. Since 2016 Wayne Fagan and The Dee Howard Foundation Board of Directors have ensured that the foundation serves young people across the Greater San Antonio Area living in and attending schools in under-resourced communities. The foundation has worked in partnership with school districts, charter operators, private and parochial schools to provide and support Pre-K thru 12 Aeronautical STEM curriculum designed to engage students in hands-on discovery about flight and space exploration. The foundation also works to connect students with industry experts and Higher ED to ensure that there is an equitable and assessible pathway to high demand high wage jobs in the fields of Aviation and Aerospace. In July of 2021 the Foundation and Board of Directors hired their first Executive Director. Together they are working on a plan that helps the organization reach it's long term goal of empowering future ready students with the skills and confidence necessary to take on the amazing careers being offered here in San Antonio.

We are so incredibly proud of the Drone Program Students from South San HS in SOUTH SAN ANTONIO ISD. Last week they participated at St. Philip's College Science Extravaganza where 5th graders were invited to see hands-on science in action. South San Engineering students talked about their drone class and how they were learning to become Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 Commerical Pilots. Check out their aerial shot and safety vests! We love that our students spent their Friday sharing the world of drones with younger students. This is how you build a movement! Thank you to their teacher Michael Sorola! #drones #faa #part107

Learning to fly a drone is fun. 💥 Learning to fly a drone, understanding the practical applications, and gaining real-world industry knowledge...that's Gold! Check out these students from Harlandale ISD as they use a small indoor drone to understand how large outdoor commercial-grade drones are used for windmill inspection. The next step is having them meet our friend Yoshi Schechter from Alamo Airborne who does this for a living! Save the date for our Regional Drone Competition in partnership with our curriculum providers from Aha Education- May 3rd and May 4th at the Boeing Center at Tech Port. We are currently registering middle and high school teams. The competition curriculum and practice kits are ready to deploy! visit www.drones4water.com to learn more or if you want to sponsor this event DM us or email us at cmartinez@deehoward.org

Today is not a day off, but a day to reflect and take action on how we can be of service to others. Our nonprofit community works tirelessly to address the needs of San Antonio. The Dee Howard Foundation is fortunate to be just one piece of the work specifically focusing on the needs of middle and high school students. We believe and are investing in their ability to continue in a high-demand high-wage career path and can see the opportunity that having a Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 Commerical License will bring. #mlk #drones #dronepilot #faa #uav #uas #uavmapping #dronetechnology #nonprofitorganization
