This morning, iMasons Climate Accord Governing Body took the next big step to help reduce #carbonemissions in the #digitalinfrastructure industry by releasing an open letter for increased adoption of Environmental Product Declarations (#EPDs) to bring #transparency to #Scope3 emissions and detail #embodiedcarbon in #equipment and #materials. Promoting industry-wide adoption of EPDs is a critical step in enabling carbon-informed decision making and furthering our journey toward #netzero, and a powerful example of how #collaboration is key to solving the pressing challenges of our time. It’s a privilege to be a part of this amazing initiative being spearheaded by Schneider Electric, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Digital Realty, Google, Meta, and Microsoft. Thank you to the Governing Body Members and their respective organizations for their #leadership and support of this key publication: Mislav Crnogorac, Lex Coors, Noah Goldstein, Ph.D., Dean Nelson, Julie Lieb, Charlie Sellars, and Douglas Mouton. Additional thanks to our Executive Director, Miranda G. Gardiner, LEED Fellow, and our Infrastructure Masons team, especially Rachell Robson, Santiago Suinaga, and Jeff Omelchuck, for their ongoing guidance and engagement. Retreat Remix! Last month, we reimagined a company retreat for WAP Sustainability, pushing the boundaries of growth and development in unprecedented ways through real-time application. Over four days at the NeoCon conference, the team applied three years of learnings on being boardroom ready, relationship building, and storytelling from previous retreats. Here's what our days looked like: -Early Morning: 2 hours of team connection & physical exercise -Late Morning: 2 hours of "remixed" refresher content from Moonlight -Conference Time: 2 hours of real-time application at Neocon -Evening: Quality time with teammates and clients The WAP Sustainability team is passionately dedicated to driving significant sustainability shifts in the world’s biggest companies. They know that real change requires both exceptional skills and strong relationships. We are immensely proud of their tireless efforts to create clarity from chaos, make lasting impressions, "level up, but laugh it off," and be true catalysts for change. We are grateful to witness your growth and support each of you as you invest in yourselves and each other. Big thanks to everyone involved in planning & delivery! This panel at ASHRAE was very informative and a blast. We actually had a conversation between owners and manufacturers about embodied carbon, procurement, and MEP manufacturers. Thanks to Kellie Jensen, Kavita Anuje Vallabhaneni, Shannon Sajdak, Clayton Terry, EIT, and Andrew Rhodes for taking a different path then traditional presentations at these events. Also proud to represent MEP 2040 Commitment as this was the 2024 2nd quarterly forum. The support of steering committee members in the audience and online is always appreciated!

We are thrilled to formally announce that three new Sustainability Directors have joined WAP since the beginning of 2024 to help us lead the growth we are experiencing. They bring a complementary set of technical skills and industry experience with unique personal qualities and interests that enrich our company—we are very happy to have them on our team! Leela will lead WAP’s new Design Lab, a concept that came as a response to market disconnects she experienced in architectural design while practicing as a lighting designer and leading an international incubator on the Life Cycle Assessment she founded. She aims to rewrite future narratives through successful leaps in creative, material, financial, and regulatory infrastructures that support thriving communities and healthy ecosystems.  She holds a double master's at Parsons School of Design and a BA in Law and Commerce from Sydney University. As the founder of the non-profit Flint Collective NYC Inc., her work has been awarded by the IES with a Special Citation for Lighting as a Tool for Social Impact. Vicki brings experience in life cycle assessment, corporate sustainability, and green building, having worked with the building and construction industry in EPD creation, PCR development, and LEED certification. Vicki aims to deliver actionable sustainability insights and create tools for climate-friendly choices, believing in environmental transparency driven by data as the most effective way to decarbonize the supply chain. She holds an MS from the University of Washington and a BS from Northeastern University. Her graduate research with the Carbon Leadership Forum focused on establishing material baselines for the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) and on quantifying life cycle GHG impacts of building mechanical systems. Webly is a licensed architect and leads projects by infusing a “systems thinking” approach to carbon program development. She brings experience in the sustainable building space, including principles of design, construction, and operation, including carbon lifecycle research, creating embodied carbon codes and standard strategies, and supporting jurisdictions to meet their greenhouse gas emission goals both for corporate and public organizations. Webly holds a degree from the University of Oregon and has recently been appointed by Oregon’s governor to serve on the Oregon Sustainability Board. She enjoys riding her vintage Vespa (converted to electric) around Portland to vegan ice cream shops in her spare time. We invite you all to join us in welcoming them to our team!

Another fantastic #Circularity24 in the books! Huge props to Jon Smieja and the entire GreenBiz Group for curating a jam-packed and inspiring convening of creative solution builders and change makers focused on co-creation and collaboration toward a more sustainable and equitable future for all. Grateful for the opportunity to deepen relationships with WAP Sustainability clients alongside my rockstar team members Gretchen Dudon and Olivia LaMarche, reconnect with colleagues and dear friends and commit to deeper collaboration, and be endlessly inspired by the vision and voices of our emerging leaders in this space. So many takeaways (as always!) but these are some of the most impactful ones from this go-around: 🟢 The power of words to center a truly circular approach: moving from ' waste management' to ' resource management' reframes the way we see value in materials and processes at every stage of their life cycle. 🟢 Expanding on and socializing more 'Re' ideologies: reclaim, rebuild and remanufacture! 🟢 Base redesign on nature-informed design - there is no waste in natural systems, and nature doesn't separate construction from destruction models, but rather exists in continuous loops. 🟢 Environmental justice efforts must be grounded in deep listening to and respectful engagement with leaders in the most impacted areas -- not all marginalized communities face the same issues and it is important that we all become better-informed allies for communities to be able to lead themselves beyond surviving into thriving. And so I will keep tapping into all the inspiration I received from so many this week, and I look forward to even more creative collaborations! William Paddock Monica Becker Kat Hunt Anne Schauer-Gimenez Jo Banner, M.A. Roishetta Sibley Ozane, M.S. John Warner Mikhail Davis Boma Brown-West Maggie Sexton Brent Trenga Mike Johnson Sushma Kittali-Weidner Jaden B.

"Stringency does not equal complicated" Biggest takeaway from the Getting to Zero Forum? There are a rapidly growing number standards and regulations driving decarbonization. States are in the process of adopting mandatory carbon regulations because it's easy to measure and verify as opposed to energy modeling and other performance metrics. Here are some notes so far! - Buy Clean California - LECCLA - New York - AB 5223 - New Jersey - Concrete - Massachusetts Clean Energy Center - Embodied Carbon Reduction Challenge - City of Portland Deconstruction Ordinance 1940 or earlier - Colorado - SB 22-051 - zero tax on low carbon materials. Nice! - PACE Equity: CIRRUS -  - Denver Green Code - 75% of GWP - Oregon Residential Building Code - can use reused materials  - CalGreeen - Mandatory (10% LCA) and Tier 1 and Tier 2 - Marin County, CA - City of Vancouver - Zoning Code - Spreadsheet template - Efficiency Vermont - National Grid - Microsoft - Carbon Negative by 2030 - Reducing Embodied Carbon in Construction Report - ASHRAE 189.1 - Embodied Carbon  - ASHRAE 240 - Whole Life - RESNET 1550 - ACI 323 Low-Carbon Concrete Code (Standard) Thanks Webly Bowles for the super informative presentation! Every #manufacturer needs to see this. Demand for low carbon materials is unstoppable!
