Walden Macht Haran & Williams LLP represents six senior FDNY Chiefs and a Deputy Director of EMS in an age discrimination suit filed against the City of New York, Deputy Mayor Banks, FDNY Commissioner Kavanagh, and several of her deputies. This weekend, Laura Kavanagh’s resignation was announced. Jim Walden told the New York Post: “Kavanagh disrespected and victimized some of the most decorated heroes serving the FDNY. The city can now settle the claims in our lawsuit, or subject Kavanagh to a bruising deposition: Either way our clients will get justice.” Click to read more.

Walden Macht & Haran LLP Partner Jake Gardener was quoted in Crain's New York Business discussing the City’s effort to force 250,000 retired municipal workers off of traditional Medicare and into a privatized, for-profit Medicare Advantage plan, which would deprive the retirees of the healthcare they desperately need: “Jake Gardener, an attorney with Walden Macht & Haran LLP who represents the retirees, said regardless of the legal challenge, it's not clear whether the city will succeed in bringing the Medicare Advantage proposal to fruition without the UFT’s support. ‘UFT is one of the most powerful – if not the most powerful – union in the Municipal Labor Committee,’ Gardener said. ‘Without the UFT’s support, I don't exactly know how it could support this Medicare Advantage plan.’ Gardener said he hopes the move by UFT ‘is the first of many dominoes to fall.’”

South Jersey political power broker George Norcross has been indicted on racketeering and other charges following Walden Macht & Haran LLP’s work with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s Tax Incentive Task Force. Nancy Solomon, WNYC Radio reporter and editor, explained what happened on The Brian Lehrer Show: “Matt Platkin is bringing this case that has been sitting in public view for several years. Governor Murphy came into office and committed himself to cleaning up the tax break program, and the backroom deals. He set up a task force. It was run by this really spectacular lawyer in New York, because they had to go out of New Jersey to get a lawyer who could take on this stuff. This guy's name is Jim Walden and he's got a storied history of taking down the mob when he was at the Eastern District of New York, a federal prosecutor, and now he's in private practice. He led up this investigation.” Click below to listen.
