About us
Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is the Greater Philadelphia regional affiliate of Volunteers of America, a national, faith-based nonprofit founded in 1896. Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is a professional human services organization that annually serves more than 11,000 men, women and children in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. We shelter homeless people and help them find permanent housing. We help people struggling with behavioral health issues or development disabilities. And we help ex-offenders re-enter their communities, reconcile with their families, and resume their working lives.

Our Addiction Treatment Program (ATP) team recently hosted a day of FUN for both staff and clients! This special day included a delicious barbeque and lawn games, like cornhole and Jenga. This team’s commitment goes far beyond treatment and case management – they truly see the importance of prioritizing social well-being and quality time together as a team.

Since 1896, our work has changed countless lives, with every individual’s story being uniquely different. Check out this client success story from one of our supervisors. “One of my clients recently achieved a significant milestone. This client was previously incarcerated and, upon his release, became part of our Navigator Program and Work Now. From the moment he joined, we provided comprehensive support – like assisting him in obtaining an ID and skills training. Our program's impact was further amplified when a local company noticed the Work Now team and was impressed by their hard work, and offered open interviews to 10 of our clients. This client was among those selected for an interview. His hard work and determination paid off as he successfully completed the interview process and was hired by the company.”

In the 1990s, New Jersey took a unique approach to diverting individuals away from the criminal justice system and designed social service programs for those under parole supervision. This led to the creation of VOADV’s Community Resource Center, Addiction Treatment Program and PROMISE (Program for Returning Offenders with Mental Illness Safely and Effectively) – all of which still exist today. PROMISE was the first, and remains the only program in New Jersey for parolees with chronic mental health conditions. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4c1mCcd
