Veterans 1st of NEW is a Tiny Homes Village with supportive services to help veterans become self-sufficient in 5 years.
About us
Veterans 1st will help Northeast Wisconsin veterans by providing them with Transitional Housing and supportive services followed by the opportunity to move into Affordable Housing after completing counseling, job training, and job placement. We will give our area veterans a place to call home with wrap-around services to help them succeed with a purpose and a desire to become self-sufficient. Veterans’ 1st of NEW is a non-profit agency with an inspiring approach to addressing the immediate needs of our men and women who have served our country. First and foremost, our core belief is that every veteran needs a safe and supportive living environment. Our vision is a three-tier construction project that will accommodate 21 tiny homes and one Community Center that forms a Veterans’ Village. The 21 tiny homes will be a combination of affordable and transitional homes. The Community Center will consist of an office, kitchen, and meeting room. The Community Center will be the main focal area shared by veteran residents, area veterans, volunteers, and outside professional staff. It will offer programs, host meetings, and provide space for special events, but most importantly, offer the much-needed camaraderie between our veteran residents and veterans from the community. Our team is mindful of other complex issues that veterans face today. One of those issues is the rising rate of veteran suicide, at over 22 per day. Then, add in the extra complexity that often comes along with suicide such as substance abuse and mental health challenges. We will be working with Brown County Community Treatment Center, the Vet Center, and the Green Bay VA Clinic to address those issues. With Brown County and VA Vouchers, their rents would be supplemented by up to 70%. They will pay up to 30% of their income for program fees and save 20% for up to 2 years to move into an affordable rental unit that is under Fair Market Value rent for another 3 years. Then they could get a VA Home Loan.

It was truly an honor to stand alongside the female veterans of the American Legion Post 539 at the De Pere Memorial Day Parade, commemorating those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
