Human flourishing depends upon the cultivation of wisdom, virtue, and friendship.

About us

At the heart of every person is a desire to know and to be known. We believe a truly human education addresses our deepest longings—to pursue knowledge, to have meaningful friendships, and to grow in wisdom and virtue. Valor Education exists to educate the whole person in authentic communities for a full human life. Through our classical charter schools and the Valor Institute, we build communities dedicated to wisdom, virtue, and friendship. Valor Classical Charter Schools Valor operates a network of the highest quality K-12 tuition-free classical charter schools. Our distinctive program offers students a full human education rooted in the classical liberal arts tradition, from the Great Books to fine arts to advanced math and science. In 2022-2023, Valor serves over 2,200 students in central Texas. Through Socratic teaching and a school culture filled with joy, respect, and deep engagement, our classical schools are forming students in wisdom and virtue so they can become fully alive and truly free. The Valor Institute Every civilization has its own unique challenges. The Valor Institute is a creative response to the challenges of our time: the degradation of civic discourse, a reductionist view of the natural world, and the fraying bonds of friendship and community. Through our centers in Austin and San Diego, the Institute offers a rich and personal counter-proposal to these challenges. Each of our initiatives is designed to cultivate wisdom, inspire gratitude, and deepen friendship.

Surrounded by beautiful canyons and rock formations, juniors at Valor South Austin spent a week exploring Moab, Utah. They backpacked, rappelled, rock-climbed, slept in tents, swam, and cooked food in the wild. In the backcountry, free from the distractions often present in contemporary life, students awaken to a deepened sense of wonder for the natural world. These expeditions afford our students unique opportunities to build lasting friendship and solidarity among their peers.

Valor South Austin's second-grade students dressed up as characters from D'Aulaire's Greek Myths for our annual "wax museum." Characters included Zeus, Apollo, and Demeter. This curriculum celebration invites children to truly immerse themselves in classic literature and increase their appreciation for what they are learning.

Valor San Antonio's third-grade students held a lively celebration to honor their recent reading of Stuart Little. We brought the story to life through an included study on bird feathers from the character Margo the bird, Stuart Little tic-tac-toe, a math study seeing how things measure up to Stuart's size, and themed snacks! The grand finale was an exciting boat race! Taking time to immerse ourselves in a deeper study of our core classics list at Valor brings new breadth and depth to the imagination, giving rise to better friendships and a deeper sense of community.

Each spring, every Valor campus hosts the annual Valor Games, a day in which the entire student body divides into city states and competes for victory. Christopher Ochoa, founding Headmaster of Valor Leander, had this to say to his community following their first-ever Valor Games: "I saw victorious teams thanking their opponents for making it a great game and defeated teams congratulating the victors. I saw students encouraging one another, picking one another up, laughing, smiling, and giving each other their all. I saw our team captains courageously leading their teams in middle school and inspiring their whole city-states at the opening and closing assemblies. I saw the Valor Leander student culture on display – and I marveled at how very good it is!"
