🥳🛍️ Happy Independent Retailer Month, a time to celebrate small businesses across America that create jobs and make communities vibrant! One example is Ida Red General Store, a retail shop that sells gifts, treats, and Oklahoma-themed goods. Angelene Ripley Wright helped create the concept for the first store in 2008 before buying the business in 2016. Ida Red now has three locations and several employees in the Tulsa area. Angelene purchased the business with an SBA-backed loan. When the pandemic hit, the business pivoted and recovered with help from SBA relief funding. The business gives back to the community, supporting numerous local charities by providing proceeds to the Tulsa Area COVID-19 Response Fund, the Red Dirt Relief Fund, and more. Angelene is the Oklahoma Small Business Person of the Year! #IndieRetail #WomenInBusiness

13 years after the inaugural White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders Economic Summit I hosted in SF Bay Area, it was great to see continued growth of this community in Saint Paul, MN this week. $2B+ in private sector investments have come into Minnesota, thanks in large part to the President’s agenda, including the bipartisan CHIPS & Science Act and the Infrastructure Law. I also had a robust dialogue with the Somali American community— a first of its kind— at the Zawadi Center, and shared SBA resources. Twin Cities is home to one of the largest African diaspora in the country. When we show up, share, and invest in the economic success of all our communities, we strengthen our country and our democracy. Happy Fourth of July 🇺🇸 SBA Great Lakes Region

This week the SBA North Carolina District Office celebrated with LATINA Style, Inc. as they marked 30 years! LATINA Style is a national publication that focuses on Latina professional working women and Latina business owners in the United States. The two-day LATINA Style Business Series began with networking on Wednesday, followed by a wonderful agenda on Thursday, filled with informative panel sessions that covered topics like start-ups, innovation, and AI. Small businesses are THRIVING in Houston! This week, we hosted orientation sessions for the two cohorts of the 2024 THRIVE Emerging Leaders Program – the Houston and Greater Houston cohorts. Fifty CEOs across the district gathered to meet their T.H.R.I.V.E. coaches, SBA HDO staff, SCORE mentors, and fellow CEOs. Both coaches did a fantastic job leading the morning, which consisted of a program overview, icebreakers, and small group discussions. SBA participants included District Director Mark Winchester, Deputy District Director Winston Labbé, and Outreach and Marketing Specialist Elizabeth C., MBA. The CEOs walked away enlightened, enthusiastic, and ready to GROW! #SBAHDO

Pictured to the right of Mr. Davis is Alpha Kappa Alpha member, Ms. Cathy Allen (right-center with green blouse). Graduate and professional students from educational and governmental institutions throughout Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Botswana, South Africa, Madagascar, etc. gained insight on the various SBA programs and services and on our U.S. small business economy. Calvin wants everyone to know that there is an SBA-SBDC presence in Kenya!
