Meet the Pigeon Horntail - a primitive member of the ant/wasp/bee order. 🐝 Shockingly, Its name doesn’t come from the long projection at the rear of its abdomen—this is a female and that’s an egg-depositor, and the males don’t have one. Rather, on the top side of the abdomen, is a triangular “plate” or “horn,” which gives Horntails their name! Thank you to The Hive 🐝 who keep the parks buzzing with life - like people, plants and the pigeon horntail! ✨Learn more and join The Hive through link below: https://lnkd.in/eUR6TBKn

Yesterday, one of our summer camps (and other local non-profits) got to hang out with the Milwaukee Brewers, building bikes! ⚾🚲 "When you think of American Family Field, you think of baseball. That wasn't the case Tuesday morning. For just one afternoon, American Family Field became a bike shop. One-hundred bikes were put together by ball players who consider themselves seasoned professionals." Read more about this project below: ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gP2-Rqug

⭐ Celebrating Freedom & Community on Juneteenth!⭐ Today, we honor Juneteenth – a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the enduring resilience, strength, and culture of the Black community. At the Urban Ecology Center, we recognize the importance of freedom and equity in building a sustainable future for all. As we celebrate, let’s reflect on the progress we’ve made and commit to fostering inclusive green spaces where everyone can connect with nature, learn, and thrive. 🌳 Join us in our mission to create a more equitable and environmentally conscious community. Together, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the beauty and benefits of the natural world. Happy Juneteenth! ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏾
