  • Erin Gillaspie, BS ’04, is our next #40GatorsUnder40 honoree. Trailblazer Erin Gillaspie, MD, knew from an early age that she was destined to be a lung cancer surgeon. She is the chief of thoracic surgery and an associate professor at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska — one of the few women in the world to serve in such a leadership role. One of her joys is mentoring students and residents to guide career development, collaborate in research and sponsor scholarships. She holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Florida, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami and a Master of Public Health (epidemiology) from Vanderbilt University. She completed a general surgery residency at Bassett Medical Center and a thoracic surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic Rochester. #GoGators #GatorNation
