In June, U-Haul volunteers gathered at St. Vincent de Paul to bake over 150 delicious pizzas, continuing the company's longstanding partnership with the Valley nonprofit and commitment to community service. For the last 70 years, SVdP has been a lifeline for Arizonans, offering food, clothing, shelter, and health services to those in need. Each summer when Phoenix temperatures begin to surpass triple digits, local nonprofit St. Vincent de Paul hands out over 6,500 bottles of water every day to protect the Valley’s most vulnerable population against the life-threatening dangers of dehydration. This summer, U-Haul contributed over 12,000 bottles of water donated by team members, presented a $5,000 check for the water drive as part of its annual giving campaign, and supplied volunteers for ABC15's live broadcast phone bank. On June 25th, the U-Haul Legal department took over St. Vincent de Paul’s Phoenix kitchen to prepare individual food containers with hearty meals for Valley families in need. “The Legal department is very blessed and fortunate to be able to work with St. Vincent de Paul and help give back to our community,” added Dave McGee, U-Haul Legal Operations Manager. U-Haul teamed up with Gold Star Mother and founder Kathryn Cross to print, pack, and distribute greeting cards celebrating veterans. Leading up to Memorial Day, they visited veterans in Connecticut and New York. The Tribute Journey, founded by Cross, creates custom cards with her poetic verses, printed out of the U-Haul Phoenix headquarters. On May 4, Gold and Blue Star families packed and sent over 20,000 Tribute Journey cards to 81 hospitals in 45 states, thanking veterans in VA medical centers, clinics, and nursing homes. For over 15 years, U-Haul has been a proud participant in the national Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. On May 27, representatives from U-Haul joined the American Veterans Center to honor the lives of fallen U.S. soldiers during this annual event.
