Yesterday, Tulsa celebrated a monumental step in its tech future. The Biden administration and the U.S. Economic Development Administration awarded $51 million to the Tulsa Hub for Equitable and Trustworthy Autonomy (THETA), led by Tulsa Innovation Labs. This investment will boost Tulsa's capabilities in autonomous systems through advanced manufacturing and critical technologies, vital for our national and economic security. Tulsa stands out as one of the 12 Tech Hubs to receive funding, chosen from 31 regions designated last fall. Expected to generate up to 56,000 new jobs, the THETA coalition is committed to developing a diverse, resilient and inclusive industry that harnesses the talents of many to ensure opportunities for all. Yesterday, TIL hosted partners to celebrate Tulsa's historic achievement of securing $51 million for the Tulsa Hub for Equitable and Trustworthy Autonomy (#THETA). No other city in the country received a larger award. This Tech Hubs investment propels the Greater Tulsa Region to become a global leader in developing and commercializing autonomous systems, creating upwards of 56,000 good jobs for our friends and neighbors in the process. The impact of this Tech Hubs investment is profound, amounting to more than $110 million over the next decade when combined with additional commitments. This success is a testament to the dedication of the coalition of 75 partners from academia, industry and the public sector -- many who joined us yesterday -- whose collaborative efforts have spanned years. This achievement is a moment to recognize and celebrate our collective strength. We are grateful to all who have supported and guided us. We are shaping a new future for Tulsa together. Today, Tulsa shines even brighter as one of only 12 Tech Hubs across the country to receive implementation funding under the U.S. Economic Development Administration's Tech Hubs program. Our proposal, the Tulsa Hub for Equitable and Trustworthy Autonomy (THETA) will be receiving approximately $51 million to strengthen our region’s position as a global leader in autonomous systems. The vision for the Tech Hubs program was ambitious: it urged regions from all over the country to play in the “big leagues” by focusing on the global-scale up of emerging industries by mobilizing regional assets, partnerships, and incumbent strengths to solve some of the nation’s biggest challenges. At Tulsa Innovation Labs, we have long believed there is no city in the country as well-equipped to lead this next era of industrial innovation as Tulsa. With our region’s rich history in aerospace and manufacturing, Tulsa has long been at the forefront of innovations in industries critical to american competitiveness. We have been quietly playing “big league” all along. Today is a defining moment for our city and validates that our region possesses the assets, capacity, and potential to lead the nation in emerging industries. We are a city determined to marshal innovation to create prosperity for the entire community, including those for whom opportunity has historically been denied. For locals, we hope it’s a moment that brings immense pride and one that ignites even more innovation. For those who don’t yet know what Tulsa is all about, this is an invitation to join us. The transformative work officially begins today. I am so proud of the Tulsa Innovation Labs team and the partners who put in the work alongside us to bring to life our shared-vision of a globally-competitive Tulsa that unlocks opportunity for all. This vision is coming to life thanks to the leadership of our Steerco members: TEDC, Black Tech Street, Cherokee Nation Businesses, NORDAM, The Innovation Foundation at Oklahoma State University, and Oklahoma State University, Osage, LLC, Tulsa Community College, Tulsa Community WorkAdvance, L3Harris Technologies, The University of Tulsa, Radius Capital Ventures and also our partners at: Atlas School, Tulsa Higher Education Consortium, Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance, UAS Cluster Initiative, Skyway36, Tulsa Tech, Asemio, just to name a few. Tulsa's pioneering legacy is alive and well today thanks to so many. I can't wait to see what our future holds! Onward! 🎉 One year of LaunchPad 🎉 This time last year, we announced the creation of the LaunchPad Center for Advanced Air Mobility at OAIRE. Since then, LaunchPad has become a hub for innovative ideas, leading to the development of new AAM technologies. Over the past year, the center hosted pivotal discussions on space safety and how travel to the furthest reaches of our galaxy will look. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Artemis Astronaut Victor Glover was instrumental in inspiring future STEM students through one-on-one interactions about leadership and success in our advancing society. LaunchPad is playing a crucial role in the advancement of Drones as First Responders. This was showcased during trials where aerial drones communicated with automated ground elements to deliver essential supplies to emergency response teams. These technological advancements were made possible through LaunchPad's partnerships with industry members. These partnerships have led to the development of enhanced detect and avoid systems, which will increase advanced air mobility within Tulsa and other urban areas. We look forward to hosting the International Society for Atmospheric Research using Remotely piloted Aircraft (ISARRA) conference in September of this year. Bringing this international conference to Tulsa will help fulfill the center's commitment to the EDA's Build Back Better Regional Challenge. Advancements in these areas wouldn't be possible without the help of partners like Tulsa Innovation Labs, Skyway36, Osage Nation, uAvionix Corporation, Tulsa Fire Department, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma State University-Tulsa, The University of Tulsa #Tulsa #aerospace #engineering #oaire #okstate

CEO, Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust; Advocate for all things aviation - especially people who make air travel possible.
A BIG day for our airport team that reflects years of work to prep the site (FAA release for non aero development) along with the care and diligence of Daniel Regan working with the site selection team to put together the package (local and state incentives) that ultimately pushed this over the finish line. Welcome to Tulsa NorSun! We look forward to having you as a neighbor and a significant contributor to the Tulsa economy!
Exciting News! 🌞 Norwegian Solar Energy Company NorSun is investing $620 million in a brand new manufacturing facility at Tulsa International Airport! This marks their first major expansion into the Americas. Construction begins later this year, and they expect the facility to be open and fully operational by late 2026. This location will create 320 direct jobs and boost domestic ingot and wafer production to meet growing demand from U.S. solar cell and panel manufacturers, advancing the renewable energy sector.
