About us
Tree House Books is a Giving Library and Literacy Center headquartered in North Philadelphia. Founded in 2005, we provide free books to children and families, and Out of School Time (OST) programs that increases literacy skills, and promote a lifelong love of reading and writing. Our programs serve children (and their families!) from their earliest moments, through high school, and beyond. Tree House Books has its roots in the belief that literacy - in its many forms - is fundamental to academic success, career readiness, and, most importantly, personal empowerment. As Black History Month ends, I reflect on the importance of preserving untold family narratives. Beyond famous figures, these stories of resilience and triumph within our families deserve recognition. Challenges arise when these stories are silenced, but uncovering them is crucial. #BlackHistoryMonth #FamilyHistory #Resilience #AfricanAmerican #CivilRights #SNCC #ShawUniversity #Activism #HeritagePreservation #Legacy #UntoldStories #PreservingHistory #EverydayHeroes #LegacyContinues

This month - Get involved here at Tree House Books!
Hi All! Shakira King, your Tree House Books Lead Community Educator here! Tree House Books is a small literacy-driven nonprofit located in North Philadelphia working to close the literacy gap for all those part of our community and is dedicated to creating the next generation of readers, writers, and thinkers here in the city of Philadelphia. As an educator, I have a deep love and appreciation for Black History. That being said, one of the ways that I share this value with my students is by inviting local and nationally known history makers and community members to continue the tradition of oral histories being passed down across the diaspora. So, Last year, I successfully launched my Black History Month Speaker Series. This year we are looking to expand our series and have more speakers across more industries and communities. I believe the work you have done for Black people is important and deserves to be highlighted. So if you have the time and availability, please complete this form: https://lnkd.in/evgStGgK so that we can add you to the speaker series. If you would like to learn more about what we do here at Tree House Books please visit us at: Treehousebooks.org Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and if you have any questions, I can be reached at Shakira@treehousebooks.org Happy Black History Month
