“Would you stent a small cell causing severe tracheal compressive stenosis” is a question that often comes up for debate. Here in this case, I did for a 60-yr old with a new diagnosis given her dyspnea and the risk of further worsening with radiation initiation. We did the case via Karl Storz rigid bronchoscopy using the single-use Ambu a5 scope and placed a Thoracent/Microtech Y-stent given the severely compressed distal tracheal+main carina+bilateral mainstem bronchi with a plan to remove the stent after the tumor shrinks and compression is relieved. Patient obviously reported much improved breathing after the stent placement! IP at BUMC keeps growing, and I’m so proud of how the program has shaped up! #KarlStorz #Ambu #Thoracent
