About us
The New York Junior League (NYJL) is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. We welcome all women who value our mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations, and communities. Since 1901, the NYJL has been a leader in identifying and responding to unmet community needs. Through direct service, collaborations with other community organizations, and advocacy at the City and State levels, the NYJL provides a positive force for change within the communities we serve. Every week, hundreds of NYJL volunteers assist women, children, and families in need by supporting the organizations that serve them through hands-on programming and capacity building. We work with more than 50 community-based organizations and public agencies to deliver services and assistance directly to those in need and to strengthen the health and well-being of the children and families of the greater New York area.

The Advocates for Public Policy committee (APP) recently advocated for the passage of the SAFE Act SB S7694, A8148: Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act. We’re thrilled to announce that the NY Legislature passed the bill on June 7, and it was signed into law by Governor Hochul on June 20! Today's youth face an online world unlike any before, filled with algorithmically-generated content they don’t choose to follow. The SAFE Act offers our youth crucial safeguards from unwanted exposure online in two significant ways. First, children will only encounter content they actively choose to follow. And second, it restricts access to social media and notifications from midnight to 6 a.m. With these measures, we're making big, decisive strides towards a safer online space for our younger generations. #NYJL #SAFEAct #ProtectOurYouth #JuniorLeague #Volunteerism #NYC #WomenPowered #Unstoppable #BetterTogether #NYJLvolunteers #NYCnonprofit #MissionDriven #FirstLeague

On June 8th, the NYJL celebrated the completion of our renovation of Columbus Park nestled in the heart of Chinatown! In partnership with NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, our Playground Improvement Project Committee (PIP) has been hard at work this spring, committing approximately 2,300 hours across five weekends and $90,000 to restore and revitalize this community hub with the help of over 500 NYJL and external volunteers. We hope you’ll stop by the park to see the impact our volunteers have had on the space and check back in to learn which park we will be restoring next year! #NYJL #JuniorLeague #Volunteerism #NYC #WomenPowered #Unstoppable #BetterTogether #NYJLvolunteers #NYCnonprofit #MissionDriven #FirstLeague

Today, we commemorate the historic day of June 19, 1865, when the news of emancipation finally reached Galveston, Texas, freeing the last of those enslaved in the United States. Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom, reflect on our history, and recognize the achievements of Black Americans. As we celebrate this important day, let’s remember the strength and resilience of those who came before us and continue to support efforts in our communities that further a more inclusive and equitable society. #Juneteenth #BlackHistory #SupportBlackOwnedBusinesses #NYJL #JuniorLeague #NYC #Unstoppable #BetterTogether #NYJLvolunteers #NYCnonprofit

We are pleased to share that the "Michelle Go Act" was introduced in Congress last week. This bill, backed by bipartisan support and authored by Congressman Daniel Goldman (NY-10), aims to expand access to psychiatric care for Medicaid recipients. Named in honor of Michelle Alyssa Go, a beloved NYJL member, this act seeks to address the mental health crisis by repealing the IMD exclusion and allow expanded access to treatment for millions of Americans. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this bill represents a vital step towards recovery. The NYJL Advocates for Public Policy (APP) committee has advocated and supported this bill. NYJL President Serra Eken said, “The Michelle Alyssa Go Act is a critical first step in offering adequate, consistent care to those in greatest need and improves the community for all New Yorkers. We appreciate that Michelle Go and her dedication to the community can be honored in this way.” Learn more in Congressman Goldman's press release (https://shorturl.at/a1uac) and the New York Times article (https://shorturl.at/pkEQH). #MentalHealthAwareness #MichelleGoAct #HealthcareEquity #NYJL #JuniorLeague #NYC #NYCnonprofit #WomenPowered #MissionDriven #Unstoppable
