Providing those leading in greater Baltimore with programs that help them become more effective and impactful leaders

About us

Founded in 1983, The Leadership provides those leading within the greater Baltimore region with programs that help them become more effective and impactful leaders. The Flagship Program is a 9-month experiential leadership program that develops participants in three areas: • Deepening their understanding of Baltimore’s history, challenges, assets, and people • Strengthening their capacity to lead, particularly in a civic context • Forging substantive relationships with fellow class members to provide a platform for collective action The Leadership has more than 1,800 alumni across the Greater Baltimore region. Applications are available each fall for the upcoming cohort. Each cohort consists of 50+ leaders from private, public, and non-profit organizations. The Program is filled with experiential learning - we believe that shared experience can be a powerful individual and collective learning opportunity. From policy debates and leadership exercises, to tours of economic assets and innovative social enterprises. We engage on important civic issues where program participants come to know their community, themselves, and each other – in many ways understanding the city and region from a completely new perspective.

Each year, The Daily Record compiles a list of people who have made our state a better place. They reserve a special Circle of Influence to honor those who have made the list multiple times. We're proud to share that our President & CEO, Kirby Fowler, was named to the Circle of Influence for a career that is consistently helping Baltimore and Maryland thrive. “The 2024 Influential Marylanders are, quite simply, inspirational. Their hard work and dedication to their fields have changed the landscape of Maryland through their extraordinary efforts,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of The Daily Record. “They make a difference in communities throughout the state every day. The Daily Record congratulates this year’s honorees.” Contratulations to all the exceptional people receiving this honor: https://lnkd.in/gr_4P5gK

Advocate for Safer Communities and Thriving People | The Leadership Class of 2023

I am being honored by Living Classrooms Foundation and the Baltimore Business Journal as a “Rising Star,” an award recognizing outstanding young leaders for their achievements and philanthropic efforts. In accepting this distinction, I have committed to raising money to help Living Classrooms fulfill its mission of providing hands-on education and job training to underserved youth and adults in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. areas. Operation RESPOND, an initiative within Living Classrooms, is a long-time partner of mine. The staff of Operation RESPOND work tirelessly to connect people and communities impacted by gun violence with resources--including mental health and economic opportunities--and caring community advocates. I would love for your support in helping continue this amazing work.

May we all realize our childhood dreams and keep exploring! Ashley Williams says: "As a kid, I wanted to be an explorer. Now an entrepreneur, I channel my spirit of exploration, curiosity, resilience, and innovation into my role as CEO and Founder of Clymb, an award-winning youth mental and emotional health software backed by the American Heart Association. I am a highly experienced meditator who is passionate about sharing the transformative power of mindfulness with others and I believe that it has the ability to improve the quality of life for anyone who is willing to commit to the practice. I'm an avid hiker, backpacker, and shower-singer." #leadership2024

If Mackenzie is going to do one thing, it's dress like a rockstar and we are here for it! "Choosing Baltimore City as my home and the place to build my career are two of the most significant and beneficial decisions of my life. I love the friends, the love, the fun, and the future I have gained from living in Baltimore, and as much as I can, I try to give back to it. I work in employment, but I am not defined by what I do. I'm an Italophile, a lover of travel, the Adriatic Sea, huge belly laughs over a bubbly brunch, time spent with my besties, Pilates and BodyPump classes. I love walks in Patterson Park, the Lantern Parade, blue crabs, Camden Yards, and Solomons Island. Additionally, I love the artistry and creativity of expression through fashion and style. I have modeled and influenced in the local fashion community and also sit on the Board of Directors for Dress for Success Greater Baltimore. Through the Board, I advocate for sustainable fashion and mentor women as they connect to careers and build their futures. My goal is to one day look back on my life and know I experienced many things and helped some people along the way." #leadership2024

When you hear him speak, you know his accent is New York . . . but his heart is Baltimore and no one makes us laugh like Major Jeffrey Featherstone: "I first came to Baltimore more than 20 years ago to visit friends, and immediately felt at home in a place with a tough exterior and a big heart. Soon after, I moved here from New York because I wanted to serve in a city that beats in time to music in the streets, arts in the parks, families around dinner tables, and the sounds of people in constant motion. Over the last two decades, I've watched Baltimore transform from a post-industrial city trying to find traction to a world-class tech hub and cultural innovator that attracts businesses, travelers and transplants like me. And when I'm out in our communities from Upton to Fells Point, I can still hear the same music of the city playing – because Baltimore's song is written by its people." #leadership2024 #bigcountry

It's amazing how Baltimore lives in so many people's hearts and Jayson Jarual Green has a very big heart: "Baltimore has truly embraced me, and I've embraced it in return. It's become a second home, as anyone who knows me, especially my wife who shares me with this great city, can tell you. From the moment I arrived 7 years ago to serve the community, I knew this is where I belonged.   Stepping into the leadership role at a 34-year-old community institution comes with both a sense of pride and a significant responsibility. Since taking the helm almost 4 years ago, I've focused on telling our rich history and current accomplishments to ensure the continued success of this vital community resource. The work we do is rooted in strengthening and empowering individuals in the community we serve. Empowering my staff, our Scholars at the charter school we operate, our Families, and community is what inspires me daily.  We're building a strong partnership with the community we serve. Ultimately, I hope to see a day where we can work side-by-side, with the community taking the lead in addressing its own needs." #leadership2024

One thing about Baltimore . . . The Ravens bring us all together! And Cody Williams is lucky to be a part of our beloved team. "I have called Baltimore home for 14 years and am entering my 13th season with the Baltimore Ravens. My wife, Aubrey, and I have three sons, Connor (6), Keegan (4) and Charlie (2) and are proud residents of Catonsville.
