Congratulations to the Baltimore Jewelry Center, one of the 2024 TEDCO MD Makerspace award recipients. The BALTIMORE JEWELRY CENTER is an educational nonprofit building a vibrant creative community for the study and practice of metalsmithing and art jewelry. Created through legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly, the Makerspace Program provides grants of up to $100,000 and technical assistance for qualified entities. Exciting News! The Market Center Merchants Association and Lexington Market are hosting the first Market Center Streetfest on June 29th at the 200-500 blocks of Lexington Street and Lexington Market. This downtown outdoor festival will celebrate Baltimore City's rich food, arts, fashion, and culture, showcasing the historic and vibrant Market Center neighborhood and the Bromo Arts and Entertainment District. Spanning four blocks of W. Lexington Street, the event features over 50 local vendors and artisans, an outdoor concert, and a bar at Lexington Market. Inspiring Story: Katie Pumphrey, a Baltimore woman, is attempting a historic swim today, planning to cover more than 24 miles from Sandy Point State Park near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to the Harborplace Amphitheater in the Inner Harbor. This unprecedented swim is a unique challenge she has set for herself, serving as a love letter to Baltimore and celebrating the years of effort invested in improving the harbor. Great News! The Baltimore Development Corporation - BDC recently announced the release of its 2023 Annual Report. This document highlights BDC's commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic economy in #BaltimoreCity. Key achievements include BDC supporting 326 businesses, resulting in the creation and retention of 3,800 jobs, with 44.5% of these businesses being #BIPOC-owned and 44% owned by women. The report also details the success of the #BaltimoreTogetherSummit, which gathered 1,500 participants across sectors to promote collaboration and innovation.
