Keeping Your Group Fitness Instructors Happy: The Key to Retention and Growth? 😀 Earlier today, We had the pleasure of attending a Club Solutions Magazine webinar featuring a panel of experts (including Staci Alden, Jennifer Hogg, Keith Irace) Ralph Rajs and Taylor Brown moderated. They discussed how to enhance the member experience through group fitness. The discussion centered around the undeniable importance of group exercise classes in the overall success of a health club. While group fitness can sometimes be viewed as a cost center, the reality is that it's a major driver of member retention and acquisition through referrals. The panelists touched on everything from current trends and signature classes to the concept of "members voting with their feet." But the biggest takeaway for me was the emphasis on recognizing and appreciating our instructors. Sure, compensation matters. But during the webinar, it became clear that it's not the only, or even the most important, factor. There are many ways to show your group fitness staff the love they deserve, especially considering many instructors work at multiple facilities. Your goal should be to make your club feel like their home away from home. In our experience as club owners, we implemented a number of strategies to show appreciation to our Group X instructors. We understood that happy instructors were the backbone of our success. Here are a few suggestion for recognizing GX Instructors: ✅ Public recognition: Shine a spotlight on instructors' achievements through social media posts, club newsletters, or even a dedicated "Instructor of the Month" program. ✅ Provide opportunities for professional development: Offer workshops, conferences, or continuing education courses to help instructors stay at the top of their game. ✅ Create a supportive community: Foster a sense of camaraderie among instructors by hosting social events or team-building activities.
