Our client was a tenant in a multifamily home that caught fire while she was at work. Despite the landlord living across the street, he did not inform her about the fire. She returned home to retrieve her belongings and fell on the fire-damaged staircase, injuring her back and shoulder, ultimately requiring shoulder surgery. The landlord's insurance company refused to pay her for almost four years. Attorney Sabrina Copp tried the case in Bridgeport Court. After a two-day trial, the jury awarded $723,954.91, which included $73,954.91 in medical costs and $650,000 in non-economic damages, reduced by twenty-five percent for comparative negligence, totaling $542,966.18.
