Did you know? The Economic Club of Chicago was founded in 1927 by Lucius Teter. View some past programs from our nearly 100-year history on our YouTube Channel: https://lnkd.in/gVSvSeg3 #EconClubChi.
About us
The Economic Club of Chicago (ECC) fosters meaningful connections among Chicago leaders to encourage dialogue on important economic and social issues and to cultivate the next generation of civic leadership. Founded in 1927, the ECC has evolved from its roots as a forum for Chicago’s business community into a premier institution that provides intellectually curious members of the business world a platform to discuss economic, business and social issues. The ECC does not take an activist role. Rather, by providing a forum for discussion and debate, the ECC advances the development of civic-minded executives who understand and embrace their role in building a better society.

It was great co-hosting The Economic Club of Chicago member exchange tonight with Sharon Hwang to share the work of The Morton Arboretum’s Chicago Region Trees Initiative. We discussed active efforts to increase tree canopy throughout the state working alongside under-resourced communities and building capacity through grants the Arboretum is administering. This investment in communities is made possible through the historic $23 million in total Inflation Reduction Act funding the Arboretum received through the USDA Forest Service and Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Thanks to all who joined us for the event! As always, thanks to Mark Ishaug for making sure there is a great photo!

Strategic Leadership at the Intersection Where Communications, Public Affairs, Crisis and Advocacy Meet
The impact of Martha Stewart is undeniable - the original disruptor, influencer and lifestyle brand. Controversial and revered. It was a joy to co-host tonight’s Member Exchnage with Olivia Bedi for The Economic Club of Chicago to discuss Stewart’s impact on entreprenuers and building a brand as well as the challenges she uniquely faced as a woman who was a first in so many ways. Thanks to everyone who joined us tonight and special shout out to fellow ECC member Carmen Rossi and the team at 8 Hospitality for hosting us tonight at Joy District, which is home to Downtown’s most fabulous rooftop. Brava!

I’ve had some great jobs and worked in some truly iconic buildings across my career. Tribune Tower is one of those landmark buildings. It was home to WGN Radio AM 720 my first job in Chicago in 1990. Went back today courtesy of The Economic Club of Chicago member exchange program. Chris Pemberton was a generous host and superb narrator of the transformation of the neo-gothic tower built in 1923 as the home of the Chicago Tribune into residential condominiums in 2021. They describe it as follows: “Tribune Tower’s original design elements have been carefully and respectfully restored to preserve its dramatic impact. In its rebirth as Tribune Tower Residences, the building’s rich architectural elements are reflected in masterfully articulated new expressions—creating a seamless connection between yesterday and today.” All true! #architecture #iconicbuilding #landmarks #tribunetower #tranformation #wgnradio #chicago

I had the honor of joining The Economic Club of Chicago in 2006. My very first Fifth Night celebration was held at the Field Museum and featured the exhibit "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" which brought over 130 Egyptian treasures back to The Field Museum. The 2024 Fifth Night celebration was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Thank you so much for joining me as my guests, Cori McKeever and Alana Widdess. And, a treat as always to catch up with Christy Uchida and David Ryan pictured here. #artsandculture #investinart
