Superstorm Sandy devastated the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Solace (designed by Robert J. Reiley in 1925). RAB Lighting helped the congregation by supplying design services and luminaires that greatly improved visibility, showcased the mosaic tile domes and vaulted ceilings, and provided elevated light. It's #DisabilityPrideMonth! Let's talk about accessibility in architecture. Our latest #FutureFocused video starts the conversation with Rachel Wiesbrock, Assoc. AIA, who is an accessibility specialist at LCM Architects in Chicago! ✨ Rachel's experiences as a person with a physical disability give her a unique awareness of physical barriers, and as a trained architectural designer, she has the technical knowledge to contribute thoughtful solutions to remediate access inequities. Throughout the past six years, she has worked for architecture firms performing ADA compliance plan reviews, completing survey reports, and recommending design remediations ranging from new builds to existing buildings. Rachel currently serves on the AIA National Associates Committee (#AIANAC), AIA Illinois Board of Directors as the Illinois State and Territory Associate Representative (STAR), and as a Board member of the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA) Young Professionals. #AIA #Architecture #Design #WomenInArchitecture #AccessibleDesign

We connected with 300+ student leaders who attended AIAS Grassroots 2024 this past weekend! 🎉 AIA 2024 President Kimberly Dowdell, AIA, NOMAC, helped begin and end the conference. She shared the importance of the 4 C's of leadership: 🧠 curiosity, 🎨 creativity, 🦁 courage and ⏰ consistency. Other topics she touched on were the Chief Architect initiative and how architects can influence policy change, housing solutions, and mental health. During the conference, we held a special focus group and expo space to share relevant AIA resources and learn about students' thoughts on the future of the #architecture profession. We are excited to continue our partnership with the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) as we work together to create a bright future for the profession! #AIA #Design #Leadership #HigherEducation

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) reposted this
2024 AIA President. HOK Architect. Cornell Trustee. Detroit Daughter. Ingenuity Chicago Board Chair.
Earlier this year, I visited St. Louis, MO. My visit was carefully curated by HOK’s Margaret McDonald and AIA STL’s Karen Taylor-Liggins. I’d like to thank them both as well as all others who made my experience so robust and rewarding. There are honestly too many photos from the trip to share here, so I decided to post just one that aligns with today’s theme around students. This is a snapshot with me and HOK spring semester intern Zachary Dietrich. I really appreciate that he made a lovely LinkedIn post about my trip to St. Louis, which included stops at his campus, WashU Sam Fox School, as well as Ranken Technical College, AIA St. Louis and of course, my actual workplace, HOK. Because I just left the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) Grassroots Conference in Washington, D.C. this past weekend, architecture students are top of mind at the moment. I heard directly from students about their most pressing concerns and how The American Institute of Architects (AIA) can support them. I made sure to convey how important their voice is to the profession and why they should join AIA the moment that they graduate. I also let them know that their first 18 months of membership after graduation are free. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gAUMyf2M Finally, I’d like to take a moment to thank my colleagues at HOK for their continued support of my time away from our core business while serving as AIA President this year. I appreciate their understanding of how important it is to be present for our profession’s most pressing issues. Nothing is more important than “securing the future”, which is something that I learned from HOK’s Chief Strategy Officer, Riccardo Mascia, AIA. Our current architecture students and recent graduates are the future. My hope is that at least some of AIA’s efforts to advocate for greater prosperity in our field will help them make the choice to join our ranks and help us all build a better world. #MoreIn24Monday #KND4AIA #100Week32
