Prepare students for tomorrow, Teach the future today!

About us

PREPARE STUDENTS FOR TOMORROW > TEACH THE FUTURE TODAY We believe that young people of any age can learn to think critically and creatively about the future and develop the agency to influence it. Do you feel the same? Join us in our worldwide mission to bring foresight and futures thinking to schools and students around the world. Teach the Future (TTF) is a non-profit collaboration among educators and community partners to encourage and support teachers and administrators to include the future in their classes and curriculum. We design and facilitate professional development for educators and workshops for students that introduce them to the concepts and tools of foresight. We also provide access to free teaching materials and support for educators who use the material or schools ready to incorporate foresight into their curriculum. TTF was established by Dr. Peter Bishop following his retirement from the Foresight program at the University of Houston after he directed that program for 30 years. Currently it is global collaborative with a team of leading educators and thought leaders in the futures community. Want to join? Please leave a message!

Futures education, futures literacy, and futures thinking are terms we use frequently in the foresight/futures studies bubble.  It's always useful to crack open the 'futurese' jargon and discuss what it means to meaningfully engage with futures. ⭐ Often framed as a professional activity essential for "planning", guiding "decision making" or orienting "strategies", futures studies could be more generously placed in the realm of humanities where, along other human capacities, imagination and anticipation should be nurtured and celebrated. 🌱 In this light, futures education is more like tending to a garden. Like doing the soil work that turns it into fertile ground for seeds to grow into flowers such as human creativity, a heightened awareness of the mechanisms of change, agency coupled with humbleness, a sense of taking part into shaping something yet non-existent. Peter Bishop, founder of Teach the Future, argues that this garden should welcome everyone, including very young people—especially them. 👉 Find your patch of shade, grab your lemonade and press play: https://lnkd.in/d-cwWYET *** This is Futures4Europe conversations, initiated by the Eye of Europe project – a series of dialogues between Bianca Dragomir and professionals from all over the world, who engage in work that is future sensitive.

Question: What frames 'future of education' imaginaries? Answer: diverse sets of assumptions - the variables that make up the narrative and analytical frames - selected on the basis of historical conditions - such as the assumed relationship between learning and socio-economic systems. One wonderfully rich way to detect and explore these assumptions is to invite diverse group of scholars and practitioners to engage in a co-designed collective intelligence knowledge creation process, as explained below by Lourdes Rodríguez Rodríguez. Plenty of synergies and inspiration for both theory and practice. Pointing at ways to weave Teach the Future's work on how to cultivate futures literacy with the theory of anticipatory systems and processes at a hands-on level as the team from the Faculty of Education at ECNU integrates and tests the relevance of the Futures Literacy Framework. Big thank you!

Coming back from a week of learning and shared knowledge in Shanghai at 华东师范大学 East China Normal University in the UNESCO International Symposium “Futures of Learning and Teaching in a Transitional Age”. I was invited to explain the work of Teach the Future and how and why it is important to include futures literacy in the classrooms. I’m truly thankful to the organisers, specially Professor Bu, Jinshen Yu, and all the researchers and students that took part. They were the best hosts. And really honoured to get a deeper understanding of Futures Literacy and Anticipation theory from Riel Miller who has been a great inspiration and facilitator throughout the Symposium. Looking forward to connect and meet again soon with all the new friends I made during this week Louisa Kastner, Lydia Garrido Luzardo, Karim MEDJAD, Janet Looney Click here (and translate) to learn more about it https://lnkd.in/dbbSgq22 #teachthefuture #futuresliteracy

The Journal of Futures Studies recently published an interesting work by Vrishank Sai Anand Grade 9 Student, Gems Modern Academy, Dubai, UAE, who is being mentored by Lisa Giuliani, Youth Foresight Project Director "Technology in the hands of a child will lead to a knowledge revolution. This essay aims to consider how reading and the right use of technology leads to a bright future for kids. Will education not be imparted through physical books? Will books move to digital platforms like kindle forever? What are the solutions for these immediate changes, especially in areas where infrastructure including electricity, internet and devices are not accessible and affordable? How do we promote reading and progressively enable this by creating awareness, providing the technology and identifying the right channels (human or otherwise)." Exciting News! 🎉 Together with prominent futures and educational institutions, we are establishing a network for Futures Literacy in Teacher and Professional Education in the Nordics (FLITAPE - Nordics) Even though international results show that Futures Literacy education stimulates imagination, increases interdisciplinarity, and creates optimism, new perspectives, and new forms of agency, this form of teaching is a rare phenomenon in the Nordics. We want to change that! To kick it off, we'll design, develop, test, and document a teaching module tailored specifically for university college students training to be teachers at the primary and secondary school level and other professions related to this. The FLITAPE project will provide teachers with the theoretical insight and practical skills they need to promote #FuturesLiteracy among their students and colleagues. The project is made possible with support from the Nordplus Horizontal program and will run from June 2024 through June 2025. Dr. Peter Bishop recently returned from an extended trip to Central Europe. In Warsaw Poland at the Skola Glowna Mikolaja Kopernika (SGMK, the Nicholas Copernicus Superior School), he was able to participate in an awards ceremony which recognized a number of people who had created transformational change in Poland in the manner of Nicholas Copernicus. Students were also recognized for writing essays on how Copernicus contributed to change in his day. Visiting Romania, Poland, Turkiye, and Hungary in April, Dr. Bishop reports that the Turkish Hub has indeed gone the farthest in introducing futures literacy in that school. "After a training program offered to teachers in August 2020, they have taught Foresight to almost 500 middle and high school students. I was delighted to address some 100 of them in the school auditorium."
