Back in the 1980s we began a process to date known as Oil processing. This would see the possibility and actualization of producing oil from Macadamia Nuts kernels. Today the product is known as Out of Africa Macadamia Oil. Our founder, Hiro Iwanaga recently had the opportunity to highlight our work at Landus’ fertilizer production and distribution facility in Boone, Iowa. Together Talus and Landus will locally produce green ammonia to lower the cost of fertilizer for American farmers (and beyond)! Check out the video here: https://lnkd.in/ePCehYTV

The Des Moines Register recently covered the Boone facility ribbon cutting highlighting Talus’ plans to build and deploy 80 green ammonia plants in Iowa and across the Midwest. Not only is Landus helping farmers lower their environmental impact, the cooperative is helping them document it. And that data — from tracking the impact of using conservation practices like green fertilizer, growing cover crops or eliminating tillage — has value that likely will increase in the years ahead. "When you can take 25% or greater out of our farmers' carbon intensity score just by purchasing green fertilizer, and at a discount, you can imagine farmers are pretty excited about this," says Matt Carstens, Landus' CEO. The Des Moines Register highlights how local production supported by the clean hydrogen manufacturing tax credit is cheaper, more reliable and more sustainable. Our founder Hiro Iwanaga says federal tax credits that were part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act spark green hydrogen production to make the price of green ammonia 20% to 30% less costly than traditional “fossil fuel-derived” fertilizer. It’s important that the tax credits stay in place for 10 years as outlined in the federal spending package. They’re supporting American farmers, manufacturing and energy independence. When the tax credits sunset, technological improvements and efficiencies should help keep prices low for farmers, says Tristan Peitz, who leads business development for Talus.
