This week’s #WelcomeWednesday is all about Sustain SC member Rio Tinto. Rio Tinto works to access the world’s essential materials and make them available for society’s use. The materials they provide are needed in everyday life and for many low-carbon technologies. Rio Tinto’s teams around the world work to reduce their carbon footprint, partner to develop new technologies to decarbonize steel and aluminum production and create new products from waste. In South Carolina, Rio Tinto operates Kennecott Ridgeway Mine in Ridgeway which stopped operations in 2001. Since then, the site has been in a post-closure active and safe monitoring status.
