Hi Folks, I've been volunteering with an amazing organization called Students Rising Above (SRA) that serves traditionally under-represented students ....students of color, firstGen, low income......primarily headed to college, but also to graduate programs such as law school. They are holding a Career Fair on Saturday, July 27th in SF. If you think your employer might be interested, please share this with them!! Here is the information: Looking to invest in motivated and talented college students? The SRA Career Fair is your chance to connect with a diverse group of college students who are driven to succeed. SRA's career development program provides these students with industry exposure and prepares them to make immediate contributions. Benefits: Access a talent pool: Meet with a range of highly-motivated SRA students actively seeking internships and job opportunities. Streamlined recruitment: Network with prepared candidates who are familiar with your industry through SRA's career development program. Build your employer brand: Showcase your company culture and career opportunities to a future generation of professionals. Interactive format: Participate in an industry panel discussion with SRA alumni and engage with students during the career fair. Event details: Date: Saturday, July 27th, 2024 Time: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM Location: Wells Fargo Learning Center, 333 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94105 Schedule: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Breakfast 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Industry Partners/SRA Alumni Panel 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Career Fair 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Networking Lunch Limited Spots! Sign Up Today: https://bit.ly/3QYDh7Q ---------- Other FAQs: Is there a cost to participate? There is no cost to participate, and breakfast and lunch are provided for all confirmed registrants.  Where do we park? Parking is unfortunately NOT provided by the Wells Fargo Learning Center, so participants are encouraged to find suitable parking options ahead of time.  What ages of students will be there? The audience of students will be comprised of rising college freshmen all the way through recent graduates and even some older, job-seeking SRA alumni.  Do we have to be actively hiring to participate? While employer participants are not expected to have current, active job postings to share with students (although please bring them if you do!), the hope is that all employer participants will be able to share at least sample job postings of soon-to-be positions that may be heading down their own respective job funnels.  Who should we bring from our company/organization? If a company/organization is bringing more than one recruiter/representative, we always encourage our employer participants to try and reflect the demographics of our students (i.e. first generation college, low-income, BIPOC) in their chosen representatives, which always allows for deeper, more impactful conversation and connections.

Congratulations, Kristy Le! She graduates this Spring with a Bachelor of Science and a minor is Technology, and Society from UC Berkeley. During her time there, she served as the Social Media Director for two clubs, including Women in Weightlifting, where she worked to de-stigmatize the male-dominated gym culture. Kristy’s story is just one of many that illustrate the impact of your support. At SRA, we witness incredible stories of determination, growth, and success every day. Our students are not just participants in society; they are change-makers, often bringing their skill sets back to their communities. ____________________________ Join us in empowering the next generation of leaders and change-makers. This past Saturday, 48 SRA high school graduates attended Off to College in downtown Oakland to learn more about what to expect in their first year of college and celebrate the journey they are about to start! This one-day workshop is SRA's annual college orientation event, where students learned on topics related college life budgeting, elevator pitches for different audiences, and how to navigate SRA's new job board platform. Students also got a chance to hear from current SRA college students and alumni. Before leaving, students wrote letters to themselves that will be delivered to them by their advisors after they graduate from college. Congratulations High School Class of 2024! We can't wait to to be part of your college journey! #SRA #FirstGen #OffToCollege #Equity #Freshman #ClassOf2028

Paula Marquez recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, specializing in Data Science. Her approach to healthcare is led by her own lived experience and her care for under-served communities. Her interest in healthcare was sparked when she had the opportunity to attend the Helix Summer Medical Program at U.C. Berkeley, a program designed for underrepresented high school students to give them hands-on exposure to healthcare careers. Now as the co-director of the Helix Summer Medical Program, Paula is able to guide students like herself and nurture their enthusiasm for healthcare.  Paula is embarking on a new chapter, pursuing a Master's in Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at U.C. Berkeley. She hopes to use her expertise to create long-term policy change and improve communications of information for communities like the one she grew up in.  __________ With only 12 days left until June 30th, take advantage of our matching fund! In 2020, 62 studies conducted across multiple disciplines found that up to 82% (https://bit.ly/4caunMD) students pursuing higher education experience imposter syndrome. This sense of self-doubt is even more acute among first-generation college students, who navigate systemic racism and micro-aggressions embedded in the academic world. For recent San Jose State University graduate and SRA Rising Stars student Lupe Barron, this experience is all too familiar. Throughout her college experience, she was challenged to reclaim her self-worth and find belonging among her Chicano and SRA community. With resourcefulness, a supportive community, and her dad’s loving encouragement, Lupe not only charted her own path but also discovered her inner strength. _______________________________ Help us reach our $200K goal by June 30th! Did you know that the national average graduation rate within six years for first-generation, low-income college students is only 11%? In comparison, 75% of SRA students graduate within this timeframe. SRA’s comprehensive support, including academic guidance, career counseling, and mentorship empowers students to navigate and pave their own path. Over the past 25 years, SRA has enabled over 500 first-generation students to complete internships. Thanks to your generous contributions, we developed and launched the SRA Internship Job Board. This platform has democratized access to internship opportunities, allowing students to search for and apply directly to positions with SRA’s long standing institutional partners. Since its launch, we have seen a 110% increase in student applications to internships, with a 210% increase in the number of applications submitted. ____________________________________________________________ Join us in empowering the next generation of leaders and change-makers.
