😌 Today, we celebrate International Self-Care Day! 😌 At DST, we believe in the power of self-care as a foundation for health and well-being. It is essential for resilience and vitality, which we highly encourage our Staff and Program Participants to replenish as much as they can. Self-care looks different for everyone! Whether it's practicing mindfulness, enjoying physical activities, nourishing our bodies, or simply taking a moment to breathe deeply, self-care empowers us to live healthier, more balanced lives. 💛 #DowntownStreetsTeam #InternationalSelfCareDay #SelfCare #Wellness #HealthAndWellness

I am so passionate about what we do at Downtown Streets Team. Homelessness is a complex and complicated issue that requires true dedication and operational excellence in order to help people rise above it. When I first started here, I wanted nothing more than to help reach as many people who experience homelessness as possible—but I also knew we couldn't do it without the right technology to support us. Accounting Seed has helped us to: Achieve real-time data Increase transparency and communication internally and with our funders Decrease the time spent on daily/weekly/monthly accounting needs (my bank rec this month took 30 minutes!) Improve data accuracy by 110% ...and so much more. In my opinion, the right technology partners make or break a nonprofit's success, and Accounting Seed has been one of those partners that empowers us to do what we do best. Check out our recent story with Accounting Seed below—a great solution for nonprofits!

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Pablo Diaz, Programs - San Jose Case Manager Pablo approaches his work at Downtown Streets Team (DST) with a unique perspective that translates beyond the scope of his job description. Years ago, he was previously incarcerated and looking to find financial stability through a job that treated him with dignity. Pablo joined DST in 2017 as a Driver assisting our volunteer program, then received a promotion to Case Manager in 2019. Pablo's role is to provide resources to families and individuals, who we call Team Members, that are experiencing homelessness or are at-risk of homelessness. He also spends his time establishing relationships with community partners, presenting accessible enrichment workshops, and checking-in with Team Members to remind them of their goals and value in the community. With his justice history, Pablo is able to relate and convey empathy towards many people that he serves in our programs. Pablo's role as a Case Manager is vital to our organization, as he must build trust and rapport with our Team Members to support their pathway to self-sufficiency. His favorite thing about our organization is that "DST allows its service providers to work in a way that empowers genuine conversation with Team Members– hospitable, no judgement, non-formal. We get to make an impact by actually listening to their stories and creating solutions in a safe environment." Down the line, Pablo sees himself continuing to help the community and "become a leader of the people" through his own nonprofit or business. He describes himself as ambitious, passionate, and genuine. We are grateful to have Pablo on our team and honored to witness his growth at DST. Shoutout to Pablo! 💚🧡💜 #DowntownStreetsTeam #EmployeeSpotlight #ProfessionalDevelopment #InternalGrowthOpportunities #CaseManager #NonProfit #EndingHomelessness

Making a difference, one bus stop at a time. Downtown Streets Team not only provides meaningful employment for individuals navigating homelessness or re-entry, we are setting out to create a better future for our communities In partnership with Solano County Transit (SolTrans), our dedicated participant employees service over 400 transportation stops every month. Their hard work ensures transit stops are safe, clean, and desirable places for everyone to wait for public transportation. I recently had the privilege of joining our team in building a new bus stop in Vallejo. It was a challenging but rewarding experience. Seeing the first user, a young student seeking shade after school, made it totally worth it. Here’s to fostering a sense of purpose and community improvement! Gregory N. Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that cities can ban and penalize people from sleeping outdoors, including in vehicles. It is without question that Downtown Streets Team (DST) opposes this decision and will continue to support those experiencing homelessness with dignity and grace. Six out of nine justices voted to criminalize homelessness without providing solutions, despite the underwhelming amount of shelter resources across the nation. Arresting and fining individuals for trying to survive is not only cruel, but counterproductive and costly. We demand a future that protects the human rights of all people, regardless of identity or background. Sleeping is a basic need and right. Homelessness is not a crime. Stand with us against the growing cycle of homelessness. Support our efforts to end homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community: - Donate to our cause at streetsteam.org/donate - Host a hygiene kit or warming/cooling kit drive - Join a Community Advisory Council in your area to promote the work of DST #SCOTUS #SupremeCourt #GrantPassVJohnson #EndHomelessness #HomelessnessIsNotACrime #HumanRights #HousingSolutions #HousingJustice

Robert joined our supportive employment program, Streets Team Enterprises (STE), a year ago in Santa Rosa. He was experiencing homelessness and couldn’t find a secure pathway to employment until he found STE through Sonoma County’s Job Link. Robert started as a Beautification Specialist and was shortly promoted to a Crew Supervisor after demonstrating substantial growth. Thanks to STE’s partnership with BCOE Back 2 Work, he was able to “gain stability and people [he] could count on.” With the support and flexibility of the program, Robert was able to to pursue truck driving school on a scholarship and will soon be employed as a commercial truck driver! He also shared that he will be moving into an apartment this week after being able to achieve financial stability! We are incredibly proud of Robert and wish him many more successes. #Employment #Opportunity #Success #Supervisor #FinancialStability #ReentryProgram #Empowerment #Homelessness #Housed #Employed #DowntownStreetsTeam #StreetsTeamEnterprises
