Launching the Next Generation of Skilled and Diverse STEM Talent.
About us
STEM Advantage was founded in 2012 to mentor, prepare and inspire women and underserved communities to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through paid internships, mentorships and scholarships. This 360-degree program is designed to open doors and support students who have talent, but don't have the same opportunity and network of students attending a private or elite public university. We partner with students attending the California State University (CSU) system, the largest and most ethnically diverse university system in the nation.

Emily, your journey to building professional self confidence and overcoming imposter syndrome to where you are today at Sony Pictures is an inspiration for many students. Thank you for sharing your story.
As Emily's journey illustrates, STEM Advantage's program extends beyond graduation, offering ongoing support and career development opportunities that empower alumni to overcome obstacles and achieve success in their chosen fields. In her own words, "Despite facing imposter syndrome and gender bias in a male-dominated field, my journey in the tech world has been marked by perseverance. Rejections, discrimination, and discouragement led to mental health issues and feelings of failure, causing me to abandon my dream of being a software engineer. Upon graduating, I was ready to look for a new path. However, the discovery of STEM Advantage reignited my hope, paving the way for internships and ultimately an unexpected opportunity at Sony Pictures Entertainment. Today, as an Associate Software Engineer at Sony, I credit STEM Advantage for reopening doors I thought were closed forever and proving that success in the tech industry for underrepresented people is not out of reach."
