Join me and my co-host Chef Pascal Olhats, tomorrow at 1PM (P.S.T.) on The Raad Life Show, where we will be joined by Dr. Julianna Asperin Barnes, Chancellor at South Orange County Community College District. Dr. Barnes has over 30 years of experience in higher education, and has made an indelible mark on the education community, especially at the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) since assuming the role of Chancellor on August 1, 2022. The SOCCCD comprises of Saddleback College, opened in 1968, Irvine Valley College, started in 1979, and their newest campus, the Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP) that was inaugurated in 2007. The district serves 50,000+ students each semester, including international students from more than 70 countries! Julianna's visionary leadership, commitment to equity, and strategic focus have not only shaped the educational landscape, but have had profound economic and societal impacts, underscoring her role as a transformative force. Thrilled to see our Board President Tim Jemal on a panel representing the government sector alongside Dr. Nery of Rancho Santiago Community College District in a discussion about impact in Orange County. Well done! #orangecounty #impact #government #communitycolleges #highereducation
CEO, nonprofit expert, start-up expertise, mission-driven, higher education leader, aspiring screenwriter
Today, I was honored to participate with Dr. Annebelle Nery, President of Santa Ana College, in a summit, focused on leadership, nonprofit organizations and education. Excellent discussion that featured honest conversations about remote work, access to capital, management and the future of education. Many thanks to David Elliott and Shawn Wehan for spearheading this event! These three pillars have been part of my life for nearly 35 years. Yes, 35 years. As some of you know, I serve as President of the Board of Trustees for the South Orange County Community College District, which represents two exceptional institutions of higher education, Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College. I sought to become a Trustee on the South Orange County Community College District Board because I believe in the power of education to change lives, break down barriers, give students a second chance and create opportunities for success. The positive results at these two amazing colleges confirm this belief. I was 23 when I first led as President a nonprofit organization focused on education - the Michigan State University Alumni Association of Washington, D.C. I was so proud that we started a scholarship program during my tenure for students in need to attend my alma mater. Over the years I have led or advised dozens of nonprofit organizations nationally, internationally and regionally, including NAIOP SoCal and GlobalARM USA. The power of nonprofit organizations is immense. The impact of joining something greater than yourself has both professional and personal benefits. Many of you know this and are already engaged in a range of nonprofit and community organizations I would be happy to speak with anyone about engaging further in the community and becoming part of a nonprofit or community organization you are passionate about. I am confident it will enrich your life and make you a better professional, entrepreneur and leader.

South Orange County Community College District reposted this
My heart is full ❤️. Yesterday on commencement day at Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College, we celebrated the achievements of our amazing graduates! Adorned in an array of stoles and highly decorated mortar boards, many of our students walked across the stage honoring their rich social and cultural traditions and experiences. They teach us that valuing differences is perhaps a prerequisite to unifying communities... and that these two things are not mutually exclusive. Our graduates depart from our colleges with more than a college degree, but with the hearts and minds needed to (re)shape the world which beckons our attention at this pivotal time. You give us hope class of 2024! We are so proud of you! Special thanks also go out to the colleges' classified professionals, faculty, administrators, South Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees under the leadership of President Tim Jemal, families and community members who have supported our students along the way. It takes a village... And last but not least, I wish to give a shout out to Dr. Elliot Stern, Saddleback College President, and Dr. John C. Hernandez, Irvine Valley College President, who lead these great institutions with passion and purpose. So grateful to work alongside each of you! #classof2024 #communitycollege #commencement
