I am very grateful for the support, collaboration and friendship of Dr. Nicole Assisi, Shelli Kurth, and Robert Schwartz for supporting SSDA and for their contributions to insuring that all California students receive a quality education! Our recent collaboration, Rural (In)Equities:Building Understanding and Offering Solutions, is an integral part of SSDA's legislative agenda. The study, published by Small School Districts' Association in collaboration with Thrive, provides a clear understanding of the challenges and successes of rural school districts across the State.

This has been a tremendous event. Thank you to all that have helped make it so successful.

Don’t touch the turtles. Each conference has a personality of it’s own. The 2024 Superintendents' & High School Leaders' Summit was intimate, impactful, and all about building relational capital. Sunday started off with a great story from Eric Bonniksen sharing about the difference in snorkeling with turtles vs eels. Moral of the story… There are times to be quiet, calm, and relaxed and let amazing things happen. Then there are times you have to react. Good leadership knows when it’s time to do both. Shout out to Yuri Calderon for addressing the unique position small districts are in and the vital role we play in supporting their work. “When you look around this room… you are in a very unique position to make change quickly…These partners are here to support you and have played an important role in small districts… bringing solutions to the table that are helping us bridge gaps and push forward.” Dinner was delicious and it was a joy connecting over a great meal- props to Taylor Wilson. She is batting 1,000 for restaraunt selections and Parsec Education for allowing us the time away from the office to spend with partners.
