Two things are (almost) always true when it comes to balancing the cost and scalability of your infrastructure The first is that reducing your reliance on a single infrastructure provider is a smart move It’s all about finding a vendor that doesn’t expect a 100% share of your wallet. After all, even the biggest cloud providers run out of compute sometimes. A good vendor will be open to you to finding alternative sources of compute and take an active interest in learning about the key drivers causing scaling events in your business The second is that over customization is often just as bad as no customization Customizing your infrastructure stack away from your provider’s core offerings too much reduces your options and increases the amount of time it takes for your vendor to deploy additional servers in the case of a scaling event Got any other infrastructure optimization tips? #IaaS #baremetal #baremetalservers

📣 A long-awaited new feature has been added to MetaTrader Terminal 📣   Users of the trading platform can now specify the terminal installation folder directly from their command line, instead of clicking through the GUI   Previously, when installed in an unattended mode, terminals were only installed into a default folder. With the new “/path” parameter, users can now install multiple terminal instances from the command line on the same computer, without the inconvenience of copying multiple files   For more information, including a step-by-step guide on how to implement this new feature, you can read our news blog here:   https://lnkd.in/dP-nwtmw

Bare metal and cloud are two of the terms that we use a lot when talking about dedicated servers. Importantly, one of the two is a literal thing, and the other is a metaphor (you can guess which is which). I take a minute here to give a top-level overview of what each of these things mean, and I hope to share some more about it in another post from this conversation. One of the spaces that we drive very deeply into at Hathora is the world of “Bare Metal Servers.” When building out servers, you can be as low to the ground as owning land, building data centers, and maintaining those day to day, or you can live in the clouds. I drop names of companies like Equinix, Servers.com, i3D.net, and there are even a few more that come from the more familiar “cloud” family. If you know them, or want to understand better where each stands in the ecosystem, take a listen! #baremetal #gamedev #gamelaunches

Ah yes we're here for our annual "Google have delayed the removal of third party cookies" meeting. It's almost as if the industry has been shouting for the last 4 years that the colossal impact cookie depreciation would have is not one that can be prepped for in even a number of years. BUT there are still changes afoot: - Privacy sandbox is still being devloped and tweaked which could cause issues on it's own - Google will undoubtedly still be working on how to shape the privacy landscape across the open internet - Third party cookies in chrome are here...to stay? Sadly it's not quite a day of jubilation but it moves the industry back onto the right course. Bear in mind there are still many great companies that have put work into helping support a world without cookies; First Party Data CDPs: - Segment - ActionIQ - Zeta Global Contextual Advertising: - Nano Interactive - Seedtag - RTB House In-app advertising: - Moloco - InMobi - AppsFlyer This is just a short list but goes to prove the astounding development work that has been run by companies in the space of four years to try and get the world ready for a cookieless future-future? Where do you see the industry heading next now that cookies have been delayed again? #adtech #digitaladvertising #cookies #3rdpartycookies #cookieless

The benefits of bare metal for gaming aren’t going unnoticed ✨ With the inclusion of servers.com and i3D.net, Omdia’s Cloud Platforms for Games Market Radar Report features bare metal providers for the first time this year “The newly featured vendors, i3D.net and servers.com are both excellent examples of the growing ability of specialized, non-hyperscale vendors to provide compelling and differentiated offerings to the games market,” said Principal Analyst, Liam Deane in last week’s press release In an industry where hyperscale cloud has traditionally dominated, we’re proud to see hyperscale alternatives recognized as legitimate choices for games studios But the inclusion of bare metal providers isn’t just a reflection of intensifying competition in the gaming infrastructure market (though, this is certainly true) Instead, this diversified range of services also marks a shift in how games studios are thinking about their infrastructure. A shift away from ‘cloud-first’ mentalities and towards workload specific infrastructure choices With more studios favoring a hybrid approach, it’s even more important to view the games infrastructure landscape holistically Because it’s no longer a question of which single provider comes out top, but rather which combination of providers will enable games studios to best optimize their infrastructure We’ve talked a lot about the benefits of taking a hybrid approach, which we’ll continue to do. In the meantime, thanks to Liam Deane and the Omdia team for recognizing the role we play in this #infrastructure #hybridinfrastructure #baremetal

When your clients’ trades are on the line you need to know that your hosting provider will onboard you properly At the end of the onboarding process you should feel confident that • You understand what your infrastructure will look like • You know how to access support – and who to talk to • Your questions or concerns have been addressed It was the thorough onboarding offered by servers.com that ensured FxGrow’s migration went as smoothly as possible “The onboarding process was seamless, easy, and with mostly zero downtime,” shared Mohamad Mazeh, Head of Brokerage and Platform Administration at FxGrow.  “We had a technical team explaining everything to us, right down to diagrams showing how our infrastructure would look once we migrated to servers.com” “They even answered some questions that were not really in their scope of support” Thank you to Mohamad Mazeh for sharing why and how onboarding done right makes the difference Read more of our conversation with Mohammad here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dipW4ckm
