The ACE Center for Evolvable Computing was created to address the rising energy use in computing, which is becoming a big problem as AI gets more popular. The Decadal Plan for Semiconductors has identified the ever-rising demand for energy as one of the five "seismic shifts" that will define the future of microelectronics. The ACE center aims to make computers much more energy-efficient by developing new hardware and software that work well together. One of their key projects involves using different types of hardware accelerators to speed up tasks and save energy. They also focus on improving data centers by reducing waste and making networks more flexible and efficient. Lastly, they are working on new ways to ensure security and correctness in these advanced systems from the start.
