If you love #technologyjournalism, you're in for a treat! CI+SSI's August issue has TWO of our famous Deep Dive reports, plus more business-transforming thought leadership. 🎉 Our Commercial Integrator Command-and-Control Deep Dive exhaustively covers the mission-critical segment. It touches on everything from CAGRs, to emerging technologies, to unique facets of designing and deploying in command-and-control settings. Alyssa Borelli spoke to six super knowledgeable C&C SMEs: Sean Wargo, Charlie Marchand, Robert Cameron, Robert Henze, CTS, Dalton Parker, CTS and Tyler Bonner. Don't miss this 11-page feature! Our Security Sales & Integration Recurring Monthly Revenue Deep Dive makes a forceful case for embracing OpEx-driven approaches to physical and electronic security integration. Spotlighting the expertise of John Nemerofsky, Chris Peterson and Michael Hanlon, our report examines whether RMR is still opportunistic or has become table stakes for security integrators. The Deep Dive also offers guidance on markets to target, services to offer and why it's likely unwise to blindly chase after opportunities. CI also proudly showcases our 2024 BEST Award winners, celebrating products, people, events and initiatives that stand out from the pack. We tout each of the winners, providing a glimpse at why they won a coveted BEST Award. That includes winners in two brand new categories: Control Concepts, Inc. as Programming Company/Service Provider of the Year, as well as Jeff Murray as AV Person of the Year. Kudos to all our deserving winners! Meanwhile, SSI delivers a feature on the Monitoring Technology Marvel Award winner. SSI and The Monitoring Association co-sponsor this program. The award recognizes professional monitoring centers and solutions providers for innovation and new technology implementation. This year’s winner is crime-prevention provider Elite Interactive Solutions. Amala Reddie reports on what makes Elite unique, including its UL-Listed SOCC located in a fully secure, subterranean datacenter. Plus, Craig MacCormack reports from PSA Security Network's PSA TEC, where he moderated a panel featuring Todd Hutchins CTS-D, RCDD, Dawna Payne and Travis Deatherage. Together, the panelists explore the synergies of electronic security and AV integration, drawing a map for how integrators can go deeper and wider with existing commercial clients. They're also forthright about the challenges, emphasizing that intentionality is critical. Of course, we have our usual mix of CI columns: Alan Brawn on differentiation; Thomas LeBlanc on #AI; Tammy Fuqua, MA on virtual meetings; and Alesia Hendley + Ashley Nichols, CTS on monetizing #DigitalSignage. And for SSI: Paul Boucherle CPP CSC on grit; Morgan Hertel on the criticality of data; Ron Davis on Big Ideas; Shane M. Clary, Ph.D. on National Electrical Code changes; and Scott Goldfine on disruption in security. Plus, a Security Industry Association (SIA) chat with Hannah Brauer. #GetExcited #Emerald

We often associate "bravery" at work with taking a risk, speaking up, or raising your hand for a project. But being brave can look different the higher up or farther you are into your career. The"hidden" acts of bravery for leaders might include: 1. Admitting to others when you're wrong (or changed your mind). This seems to get tougher the more expertise we have, but having a flexible mind is not a weakness but a strength. 2. Practicing silence to allow others to speak up. Allowing pauses, not filling every minute of the meeting with a directive or comment, letting questions hang in the air waiting for a response--these gestures can all encourage people with less experience to say the things that need to be said. It can be scary to let a pause grow, but you will inevitably learn something. 3. Responding "I didn't think of that" to a suggestion or an insight from someone else. The more experience we have, the more difficult it can be to admit to peers or even our manager that we've overlooked something, but authentic humility is a most appealing trait at every level.
