When Hurricane Ida ravaged the area of Dularge, Joyce's home was left in ruins. But amidst the destruction, she found an unexpected calling. Second Harvest arrived with disaster supplies and food, much-needed in this food desert. They established a monthly Mobile Pantry at the old elementary school, and Joyce was first in line - not just for help, but to volunteer. Her dedication inspired others. Now, there is a permanent pantry across the street from the school. The community is turning adversity into an opportunity for lasting change. Ready to join the movement to end hunger? Go to no-hunger.org to learn how you can help.

Mike and Rachel have faced tremendous challenges. Rachel, who has lupus, struggled without health insurance, and then Mike lost his job during the pandemic. When Hurricane Ida struck, things got worse. They lost their home and nearly all of its contents in the storm. Luckily a friend gave them an old FEMA trailer leftover from Katrina, and they heard about food assistance available at Second Harvest’s pantry partner, Plymouth Rock Baptist Church. Since the storm, Rachel has applied for Medicaid. Mike now has a lead on a potential job. “Without this help,” Mike said, “we would have given up.”
